Advice on figuring out what I am tuned on
Bought a 14 BRZ, Found out it has some sort of launch control. Not sure how to tell.
Problem being is FFS or LC is being enabled via the clutch switch when i go WOT and go to clutch kick(vise versa). I don't know the history. The car is stock other than suspension, if i buy an OFT can I just start new? or since this thing has a file of some sort how do I determine what it was tuned with? |
I don't think OFT is going to let you start new without some special sauce mixed into the process, or if it does it might cause worse problems. It would probably let you at least read the calid to see if someone messed with it, but I think there are probably other readers that are cheaper.
Subaru dealership can probably check to see if it's been tuned as well. They won't be able to tell you how though. |
Ecutek typically has map control and you can adjust launch control RPM with cruise control stock. Hold launch control and press up/down on cruise control stock and if it adjusts RPM then ecutek. Any time running you can pull cruise stock towards you and hold for 1-2 seconds. Map control will come up and RPM will go anywhere between 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 which indicates what map(1,2,3,4)
OFT has no map control and launch control is fixed and cannot be adjusted without a ECU flash. |

Local dealership doesn't want to get involved. |

Can also check how launch control is activated. OFT and ecutek are little different. OFT it's always on even in neutral so long as you are stopped. Active with any amount of throttle %. Ecutek requires clutch depressed and full throttle. Cannot remember if being in 1st gear matters. |
Advice on figuring out what I am tuned on
If the cruise control 1/2/3/4 step fails, then it might not be Ecutek at all. You can try getting a Tactrix adapter and download the current tune from the car. Tactrix will tell you what your ZA1Jxxxx is, and then you’ll have the tune file to upload to ask more questions about — and/or, you could then dig up the stock ZA1Jxxxx ROM for your car and flash it with Tactrix to put it back to stock. Or you could consider introducing OFT instead of Tactrix, and the OFT might accept your current ROM as your ‘original’ ROM, which would let you update it to latest or whatever.
(But. Paying a tuner to revert the car to stock and start over is probably simpler, though!) |
