Horrific drone on a used MXP Comp RS... potentially damaged?
Hello,
I recently bought a used MXP Comp RS catback, and the low-pitch drone was so bad from 2.5k-4k RPMs that it left me with a feeling of pressure in my ears after driving like it was giving me hearing damage and I had to take it off after a day. I'm also running a catless JDL UEL header which I suspect makes it worse, but I'm wondering if the muffler or resonator was potentially damaged by the previous owner and it may be abnormally loud as a result. Is this just how these exhausts are, or is this one likely not working properly? Is there a practical way for me to check the integrity of its internals? Thank you |
To be expected with a catless uel and that exhaust

Don't double up, yo.

A resonated front pipe will help with drone but it will still be loud. Being used, the packing in the cans could be toast too.

Comp RS is known to drone on its own. I'd probably just sell and find something else. CSG touring is about all I can recommend that shouldn't drone. Beyond that it's a roll of the dice. I tried a few quiet CB/AB and they droned at lower RPMs.
You'll go down the rabbit hole chasing a fix with the existing setup. |
I once pieced together a JDL UEL catless header, Nvidia catted front pipe, and an MXP Comp RS. It sounded nasty, but it did drone on the highway more than I liked. I ended up selling it four days later for a $120 loss (let's call it a rental) and later picked up a used MXP SP for $500. The SP is much more livable and I totally recommend it in combination with the JDL UEL header.

Appreciate the replies guys! I'm definitely just going to sell it and look for something a bit more mature, oh well. The SP sounds great.
