USA front license plate mounting? Slimline bracket mount.. Help across the world :P
 

Hey guys,

Just finished up making Australian License plate holder prototypes, and was curious to know about the license plate mounting for people in other countries. Does anyone have a diagram or can help me with the locating holes for the numberplate mounts?

Also I have noticed that someone said USA doesn't need license plates on the front at all? is this a state by state rule? As such, how do they mount the factory plate holder for your guys? Over here its two giant gaping rectangular holes on each side of the bar, where they slide a spring clamp that has a nut on the back. One for each side of the plate mount.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated, as I don't have access to USA plates and I am unsure if our design would be applicable for anywhere aside from Australia.

Based on how we did ours, maybe you can advise if this is possible or not on USA plates?

Over here, at least in Canada where the front plate is required, the plate mount on the front is screwed into the black plastic "honeycomb" grill on the front....resulting in two less than desirable holes in the solid plastic part of the honeycomb...

Those two screws hold on the plate holder (through the bottom two holes), then the plate itself it mounted to that via the top two holes.

Any chance you can shoot us a picture of what a Canadian plate looks like and how far apart its mounting holes are? I am interested to know whether our brackets would be at all useable in other countries or not.

Its the same plate mount but instead of punching into the bumper, my dealer just put two screws here (red dots in your pic)

I ended up removing that shit and moving my plate down...

The front plate is a state-by-state thing. Some require it, some don't, and some technically require it but rarely cite anyone for not having it.

I think

1) Aussie plates are beautiful compared to this big USA things
2) Mounting it in the grill makes it look even worse, and then you're also covering the grill
3) The best route is to either ditch the front plate or move to Australia. :happy0180:

No holes in the car and I car remove it whenever I want very quickly without damage!

If I could I'd use the Aus licence plate and holder but cost wise I'm planning on http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11676 .

you guys are lucky, over here they put 2x 2" x 1" holes on the front bar, for the locator clips, plus the holes in the mesh.. its crazy ..

I reckon the new Maroon Queensland plates are bulk ugly (I prefer the older green ones) but dont think I cbf getting custom... not really my thing

It sounds like they hack up the front bumper for the factory plate holder here in the US as well.

Is there any reason you couldn't use a tow hook mount in AU? It's basically a threaded post that screws into the tow hook receptor with a plate-sized aluminum bracket that mounts on the other end.

I'd be surprised if it's not supposed to be centered here as well, but the rules vary by state and the enforcement in states where the front plate is required is inconsistent from one to the next.
