Thoughts on ordering suspension from gr86 cup car?

I'm new to this site, I read a lot of posts but this is the first time for me to ask a question.

Does anybody have experience with this suspension set developed by TRD?

TRD
COIL SPRINGS AND SHOCK ABSORBERS for GR86 Cup Car Basic (MS250-18006 + MS260-18006)

The price is about 2700 usd if you order it from Japan.

I'm currently choosing from this and a decent coilover set. I know coil-over will typically give you more adjustability but I don't think I will do a better job in terms of tuning the suspension than those engineer's how developed the actual car, or the racing department behind them.

I don't care if it gonna be a harsh ride, I assume it will be super aggressive, as long as it won't be easily broke on normal road conditions. But will it?

Interestingly, in Japan domestic market, this set is not associate with 86 cup car at all, it just has name: GR suspension.

Any thoughts?

Yeah...
That is not how most high end OTS parts let alone coil-overs work.
The consumer is the deciding factor and therefore most are not adjusted at all because driving style plays into it alot.

There are exceptions. TRD/GR/Whatever they decide next is not one of them.
Either
1. Leave the car how it is.
2. RCE Yellow drop springs and B6/8 dampers.
Seeing as you know as much as you do I do not recommend jumping to adjustable coil-overs.

What's your goals for the car? Is a dedicated track car, mixed street & track, mostly street with some track, or just a street car.

I wouldn't go with the CUP suspension unless it's mostly a track car. Higher end coilovers may still be a better option. I don't know anything about the CUP suspension. Wonder what the spring rates are.

That is not the suspension used on the GR86 cup car of the US series run by SRO.

I tried looking for more in depth info on the SRO GR86 cup car modifications. Only found just some surface level info.

Do you know if there is a complete build list, with technical specs?

This is all that's public right now as far as I know.

This GR86 Cup Car Basic suspension appears to be a revised version of something they offered for first gen and is technically also an adjustable coilover; 40-way adjustable damping and height adjustable (-15mm out of the box). No camber plates/adjustments are included (can reuse OEM top mounts) and no spring rate published (again).

The text in the middle of the page briefly speaks to the intended purpose of the setup - "...it has a high-rate setup that focuses more on circuit driving, and has improved steering stability in the high-speed range such as race use."

Found a Japanese user review, but they didn't really speak to how it drives:
https://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid...648/parts.aspx

And I only know of one user stateside that had it on their first gen, but the thread is 100+ pages, not sure if they ever talked about how the suspension feels:

Overall, I feel like it's a gamble whether you'll like it (Japanese roads/tracks are said to be glass-smooth). And if you run into a problem, any support/warranty/parts/rebuild would be a hassle since there's no stateside support for it.

Just my $0.02 but $2,700 can get you a bitchin' set of coilovers.

Would not see any reason to go for cup suspension given the aftermarket options out there that will probably arguably be better for your application.

imo, the only reason to run the cup suspension is if you're participating in the cup series.

FYI the Cup suspension in North America is fairly high end...

One other thing to consider with these would be ease/cost of getting them serviced. What kind of support is offered for non series participants?

Interesting. How invasive is the TC?
