Help pls traction control light comes on and check engine too

So my car has 106,000 miles, I changed the spark plugs and ignition coils 1,000 miles ago and haven’t gotten any problems till now. The TC light comes on for a few secs then goes away and the CEL comes on, and sometimes goes away on its own or I’ll just erase it since car feels ok.THERE HAS BEEN NO TIME THAT ONLY ONE LIGHT AND THE OTHER DOESNT, they both light up at the same time but the tracción one disappears and that’s when I start experiencing some of this stuff

So this happens during acceleration usually but nothing crazy since I don’t wanna push the car, it has happened at 65mph and as low as 25mph the code that reads is P0353 but I check for misfires and got 0 everything in the car felt good only difference I noticed where
-My brakes would grab on harder than usual when I got to 13mph without even pressing on them (only happens when CEL is on, if I erase it brakes work fine)
-my brakes are really squeaky even while on acceleration, kinda sounds like they are engaged
-little loss of power nothing crazy just i notice it
Here’s the interesting part tho
-I’ve also had my rpm needle drop a little and then go back up to position at a stop
-I have like a gas pedal deadzone where i feel like I have to press down more than I used to
-feels slower than usual on 1k-3.5k rpm if I push it passed 3.5 that’s when it starts feeling “fast”
-I have an exhaust so I can hear the engine and when coming to a stop it feels like engine goes silent for a bit and that’s when the rpm drops from 500 to 400 then comes up and stays at 500
-today I even noticed my lights dim a little when coming to a stop at the same time the rpm dropped to 400.

I can’t really take it to a mechanic since my CEL goes away sometimes fast or sometimes it takes a day but the code it reads me is for my ignition coils, which is weird since they are brand new. Now I’m thinking it’s my brakes since they are really worn out, ima change them this week seee if that solves my problem, I’ve also thought about it being my speed sensors ? I read that turns the TC light on too or lastly my 3d ignition coil but I barely have 1k miles with it so I don’t see why it would fail now. What do y’all think?

Make sure all you coil packs are secure. Also nothing saying you don't have a bad coil no matter how new it is.
You have a code that is telling you what is up so why blame brakes?

Is there a way to check if an ignition coil is bad? Ima check and see if the cable that connects into the coil is on correctly, maybe even switch coil 3 with #1 and see if code changes
I’m only blaming the brakes because I’ve never had the TC light come on at the same time which makes me think it is something other than my ignition coils

Easiest way is to swap coils just as you said. I would guess that it is a bad connection though since it seems to be intermittent.

I’m doing that right now to see if my code swaps but is there a way to know if the connection cable has gone bad ?

afaik, traction control doesn't engage on motor problems. i suspect you've got more than one issue here.

FIFY

TC light may come on with cel, can't remember. Should still be active unless there is a can com issue with the abs/TC module which not all scanners see.

Just giving an update, sooo I swapped ignition coils 3 and 1 i also think the cable that plugs into the ignition coil was a little loose so I made sure to clip them on correctly this time. (I also to cut a bolt to get the ignition coil on tight otherwise it was too loose and car wouldn’t turn on but I doubt this matters)
After cutting it and bolting it on tight I tried to turn the car on and it WOULD turn on and it would rev up and then just die right away. I also got a new code P0451, I have no clue why it just turned on when all I touched was the ignition coils. Going to have to call a mechanic unless anyone has any ideas?

Come on guys this is FRS101. The traction control and cel lights on at the same time indicates "limp mode". He probably didn't have cruise either but doesn't mention that. The fact that the traction light would go out was what made me think bad connection.

That is an EVAP code and should have nothing to do with any of this.
What do you mean you "cut a bolt"?

It's honestly been so long since I've had a cel I don't remember lol I think the last two times was Thunder Hill in 16' for a misfire, and when I blew up an engine at the Ridge in 20'.

I have never even seen a cel much less limo mode!

soundman98 10-13-2022 10:01 PM

now i want limo mode!

knock on wood, my vehicles haven't thrown anything more serious than a tire pressure light. and i'd like to keep it that way!

After you throw a misfire CEL it stops monitoring for them until the code is reset. Are you tuned with OFT or Ecutek?

When you reset a CEL some methods reset all your trims and throttle learning too. These will sort themselves out.

I wouldn't worry too much about that code. Keep driving it as you normally would and if it continues to pop up try reflashing your tune.

I am with Tcoat on wanting to know what you cut?
