80w90 oil after service?
Hey all,
just recently took my 2013 86 for servicing and realized they used 80w90 transmission oil instead of the 75w90 which is stated in the owners manual. Have been doing a lot of reading and it seems that 75w90 should be used for this vehicle. Should I be worried about this? Or should I call them and request for them to use the correct oil. |

You're fine. Minimum Spec is GL-3, and genuine Subaru LSD (80W90) oil is rated at GL-5. Will not be an issue. |

I couldnt find much information of 80w90 used in 86/BRZs so I got a bit worried considering the owners manual itself says 75w90 spec viscosity, unless the difference between 75 and 80 is minimal? |

Here is a thread that discusses the use of GL-5 fluids. It may help. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=127005&page=2 Subaru will provide their GL-5 regardless of year. |

So in terms of the actual viscosity rating (GL rating aside) there isn't anything to worry about? |

Is not something that will make or break your components, Im sure someone will come and chime in and quote the manual, and others will say how GL-3 is the right one, others how GL-4 is about the same. But if you're really worried about it, you can talk to the technician so he can give you more insight on why they chose that viscosity. The only thing might be that it will take longer to get up to temp, so if you're in an area that gets really cold, might want to sit on the car a little longer in the mornings before driving. |

I personally stay away from the multi-rated gl4/5 stuff. |
