Question Installing Dual SPAL Fans

Hello All!

I'm pretty sure a few of you folks have installed a dual SPAL fan setup and I would like to tap into that knowledge.

I am going to install my Koyo radiator along with a dual SPAL fan setup, however, I noticed the two fan clips on the SPAL fans are different from the ones on my 2013 BRZ.

Should I just invest in a prefabricated wire harness, like from Chasebays, SPAL, etc?

Or is there a way to run these fans in line with the pre-existing wiring?

Thanks in advance!

V/R,
Ace

Well, if anyone is interested, I found this video, and will probably do the same...

Be careful, the previous owner of one of my cars wired the SPAL fans to the stock connectors and I found they'd intermittently pop the 20a fuses. I ended up wiring them to a 30a relay each.

Oh, good to know...yeah, I'll check out the circuitry requirements prior to final installation.

If this is the case, and since I am rewiring into the current fuse lines, I could just install 30amp fuses in their current place, right?

Thanks,
Ace

You could, but I opted not to go that path due to the size of the stock fan wiring not being the correct gauge for 30a.

So what did you do?

How did you wire your fans?

Did you wire a separate dedicated fuse block?

Thanks!

I wired in two of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PB4AY8/

Ignore the ugly wiring, there are two pictures here https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...1&postcount=18

You basically wire the fans to the relays and use the stock fan wires to signal the relays.

Haha, gotcha...I was trying to do this install without the use of that kit, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'll err on the side of caution and get that relay kit myself.

Also, I'm assuming no issues since?

Thanks in advance!

Everything has been great since putting them in. Probably a much cleaner way to do the wiring that I did though, haha.

LoL, all good...you can always make it better later.

Same here bro, and since I am very OCD when it comes to my project builds, I am treating this one no different.

Ha, I am stumped right now though, you see, I want to rejuvenate and re-loom my harnesses.

One, I want to clean up my engine bay, two, I would like to extend and tuck my wires elsewhere like my light harnesses, and everything else that will be exposed to the high heat temperatures all while making the entire harness brand new.

LoL, I am thinking that pulling the harness from the interior out is the simplest way, rather than yanking the engine harness through the firewall.

I mean, from the images below, unclipping the connectors from the interior cabin seems like an easier task, especially since I still have my motor in.

And yeah, I'm keeping the motor in, because I am taking my car to the paint shop in a couple of weeks to install my wb fenders so that I can run my Work Meisters S1 3Ps .

Oh, man, that looks like a pain, haha. Looks like it'll all be worth it in the end, I subbed to your build thread :)

OMG it is...and what's worse, Subaru decided to make the engine harness simple, yet wiring every fucking thing else into one harness .

Regardless, I am going to see if I can create/fabricate my own harnesses.

Of course, I am going to use OHM's law with TXL and/or Tefzel wire to reproduce such a product.

I mean, best case, I create an amazing harness while gaining a tremendous amount of electrical knowledge along with the satisfaction of having a killer harness and amazing-looking engine bay.

Worst case, well, learning a very expensive mistake, yet still learning a tremendous amount of fuckable experience. LoL
