Bedding Brake Pads
 

Quick novice question…

Just had Ferodo DS2500 pads installed (with new fluid too). I need to bed the brake pads without access to a track. My plan is to try to do it in the parking lot at my work tomorrow. Question… Is there any issue using the brakes (lightly) driving around town between now and then? My work is about 15 miles from my house and there are several stop lights. My only other option would be to get up early and find an empty road (rural’ish) and hope to not get interrupted during the process…

Honestly I haven't had issues just bedding pads driving normally on the street and 1st session of the day at the track. I haven't tried any "bedding" procedures on the street for probably 15 years now! That's using a variety of pads from Carbotech, Winmax, Project Mu, and CSG, and swapping back/forth with various OEM and aftermarket "street" pads. No experience with Ferodo DS2500 though...

No problem driving around for a while before bedding them properly.

As these guys have said just drive to bed those pads. I only intentionally bed full, hard core compounds now.

I knew you had tracked without bedding before so on my most recent track day I decided not to bed my new pads. They smelled awful on my first session, but after that they worked just as well as my last set of bedded pads (DTC-60 pads, probably helped that my old rotors still had bedding from my old DTC-60s)

Bedding is good if you smear pad on the rotors. Otherwise,... Your Meh May Vary

I have generally bedded pads (autocross compounds mostly) with 10 hard applications from 40 to 15 on a light traffic street, then park the car overnight. Braking gets notably better at the end of the cycle.

DS2500? Just drive them normally, and they'll bed over time. No special procedure needed.

It's not a problem to drive them around a bit before bedding. You won't hurt anything. If you don't get them bedded before you get to the track, just take the first few laps easy and progressively go harder. Let them cool a lap, then you should be good. The DS2500 is extremely easy to bed-in.
