Custom rear diffuser/cut bumper idea. Suits single/twin exit

Hi,
I completed this mod to my 86 recently and thought I'd share

https://i.ibb.co/jD2pwGf/IMG-7962.jpg

I've used a modified "TRD v2 Style" rear lip, a metal mesh panel, and some rubber edging, and replaced the stock reverse/fog light with one designed for a Ford F-150.

First step was to use a Dremel to cut the rear bumper off, leaving space to mount the new reverse/fog light.

I then tidied up the edges with rubber edging. You could leave it like this if you want a more aggressive look.

Cutting the mesh to the right shape following the contours of the rear lip was the hardest part, but pretty happy with how it turned out. There are two metal brackets holding the rear lip on (mounted to the exposed ends of the heat shield bolts) as well as the two stock push clips at each end. The mesh is held in place with sikaflex.

You can cut the hole in the mesh wherever you want, so could suit a variety of exhausts. I have the MXP Comp RS catback.

Hmm .. imho very good idea & well executed. And custom-cut mesh really can accommodate any type of exhaust, and to me seems that result will look better then stock bumper with exhaust hole cover on one side.

Similar in some ways to the old Lotus Elise rear. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5e9390ac74.jpg

Yes I was inspired by Lotus and other exotics where the mufflers are semi-exposed.

Would love an Elise one day....

This actually looks really cool and I've never seen it done! A great idea and great execution. Well done.

Also, nice wheels. I wish I didn't destroy mine.

Very nice. I am looking to do something similar since I don’t care for the full cut bumper look.

sato 06-11-2022 06:46 PM

Very clean

PulsarBeeerz 06-11-2022 08:47 PM

Very well executed.

Sweet! And it gets rid of the really weird V light I've never liked.

dragoontwo 06-15-2022 07:50 AM

For the most part I like it. I just don't care for the cab light back there.

How'd you mod out the divot in the rear lip?

I cut two triangles from some sheet metal to bridge across the divot, stuck them in place with some glass fibre body filler (Septone brand) and then went over it again with the filler. Then did lots of sanding to get it smooth and even.
