White smoke from engine bay
Hi all, after some spirited running the day before I took my 86 out today and without using high revs a fairly noticable smoke smell started entering the cabin, I checked the engine bay after and quite a lot of white smoke was coming from the bottom of the engine bay.
Here is a video of the issue Any ideas? |
What did it smell like? Hard to tell if it's steam from a coolant leak of smoke from an oil leak. Either way, you will need to pull the bottom cover off and have a look.
|
quite a strong burning smell
|
Also check under the car, you might have collected a plastic bag somewhere on the road, now touching some hot part of the engine bay.
I have already seen this happen twice, once on my own BRZ. White smoke and burning smell. Or it's a leak indeed. Coolant usually smells slightly sweet. Oil does not. |
Is that oil I see running down the block in the left side of the shot?
|
I'll have a look underneath later today for debris/leak!
|
I am detecting a faint burning oil smell when I sit idle in my car.
What's the update on this? |
oil is supposed to be inside the motor, not outside.
did you hit something? run over something? change something? let someone look at something? the possibilities are nearly endless. |
I just found my cam plate has started leaking, you might wanna check that.

I prefer the Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino.
That looks almost like The A Team's van. |
