Power steering failure

My power steering quit working and is showing a current code of C1528 which is motor rotation angle sensor. This issue was mostly intermittent but has recently been happening a lot. I tried unplugging the harnesses going to the power steering ECU with no luck, and looking at live data, the rotation angle is all over the place and is showing little to no amps to the motor. The vehicle had an alignment issue with the power steering working when I bought it but then stopped. I replaced the struts, control arms, and steering rack to fix the alignment issue thinking that the power steering issue was related but it was not. Has anybody experienced this issue or has any insight as to what to do? Thanks!

I've never had it quit working but I did have the angle wrong when reattaching the rack and it lit up my dash. I knew right away what the issue was cuz my steering wheel was pretty crooked. Reattached the rack and lights went away. Not sure if that anecdote will be useful to you or not

I had that issue too when I installed my steering rack causing slip light and ABS light because of the steering angle sensor. Centered the rack and no lights for that. Only power steering light and failure

This is a purely electrical issue. I've never seen this one in particular but it boils down to one of three things.
  1. The resolver,
  2. The control unit,
  3. Or one of the four wires between them.
Ok, that's six things but you get what I mean. Gun to my head, I'd start with the resolver. Moving parts, brushes, slip rings... but if that was the case, I feel like we should've heard about this before now, and more often.
