Do you know what "Subaru" means?
Subaru is a Japanese word that refer to the group of stars "pleiade" :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiades That's why there's stars on the emblem :-) |
Yes.
BTW, "Celica" was a reference to "Celestial Dragon", hence the dragon emblem on early models. |
Also as for the Toyota logo,
There are three ovals in the new logo that combine to form the letter "T", which stands for Toyota. The overlapping of the two perpendicular ovals inside the larger oval represent the mutually beneficial relationship and trust that is placed between the customer and the company while the larger oval that surrounds both of these inner ovals represent the "global expansion of Toyota's technology and unlimited potential for the future." any history on the scion logo?
just curious |

Scion itself means "Descendant" |

Logo design and creation team members:
“Scion” means descendant of, and shows Scion’s clear heritage and connection to Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. The pronunciation is “cy-on”; like “Sci” in Science with “on” at the end; “sigh” with “on”. The word scion derives from Old French cion, of Germanic origin. According to a Scion Marketing Manager, there is no deeper meaning behind the Scion logo. Similar to the Lexus “L” logo, the Scion logo contains a stylized “S” …sorry to disappoint, but it has now been confirmed that there is no greater mystery. ("As the Creative Director on the SCION logo, I can tell you that the stylized “S” does contain meaning. The S is meant to relate to the constant swimming of a shark. Ever on the move. Since the brand took shape in California, it was important to represent the connection to extreme sports and the ocean. The shape also speaks to a road on the horizon. The logo is meant to create movement, dynamism and a bit of danger. -Wyndham") Source: http://scionnews.net/toyota-news/a-l...a-scion-logos/ |

I believe the star cluster is Pleides, at least in English. FHI, Subaru's parent company, evolved from the Nakajima Aircraft Co after WWII. They make all the garbage trucks in Japan.
Not sure why they chose that particular group of stars. I like the Jewbaru, with the six-pointed stars! According to my first wife who grew up in Israel in the late 60's to 70's, Subaru (pron. "Subaro" there), was a very popular brand there. |
The stars are also there as a reference to the five companies that formed FHI. Hence the smaller less bright 5 stars and the brighter single star. Subaru also means freedom and unite.

Subaru is U r a bus backwards :p
My old roommate referred to his old early 90 legacy wagon as "the bus". I think I may start calling my BRZ the bus... |
