How to know if "tone wheel"/reluctor wheel is oriented correctly?
I really think that there should be a sticky in the forum regarding this wheel.
To be more specific, I am referring to the wheel in this post. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...=119729&page=3 I have seen videos and forum topics of people who have gotten the orientation of that wheel wrong, and its something that isnt common on many engines (meaning even experienced people can miss it), can easily bolt back up without any sign of weirdness, and is something that can easily fall off when taking off the flywheel. In any case, i have heard that checking your rpm readings from scanner to tach, is a good way to determine if you put it in correctly, assuming your car starts and doesnt have weid timing issues. I know that there is an engine peephole, but that is likely to only tell you if the teeth are facing the correct direction. Does anyone know of a good way to check if its on correctly without pulling the trans and looking at it? Thanks! |
The reluctor wheel has a line up hole that aligns with a pin on the crank. It won't sit flush if it's not lined up correctly.
