Will sound tube delete be legal?
For ST classes. I know the intake can be replaced, but is the sound tube part of the intake? Will all the plumbing need to be left in place, even if it's non-functional? Will it be legal to make the sound tube non-functional?
Yes it would be a weenie protest. Scott |
Who knows with ST's screwy rules.... Best suggestion: sebscca.com Drop a note and get an official opinion from the STAC and/or SEB.
I would assume that the sound tube is fine to remove since it does nothing but transmit noise... but I've seen stranger things happen. |
It's part of the intake, so you can remove it. It doesn't attach to anything other than the intake.

Like Sam said, weird stuff happens so the letter is best but I would assume yes. One thing you could check is if the 302 Mustang guys deleted it (Terry Fair for one, before he moved to ESP) as they have the same type of device on the intake of the new Mustangs.

I might depend on what Scion/Subaru officially calls that part. The MX5 STR guys tried to take something off when installing their intakes. The SEB said no, because Mazda called that part something other than an "intake" part.
There was a long thread over at the Miata.net forums about it. I with I could find it.:mad0259: Steve |
On the MX5, it wasn't part of the intake. It was a radiator cooling duct, that you needed to remove in order to install the Mazdaspeed/AEM intake.
I see no problem with the sound tube thingy removal. |

Nor do I, but it is the SEB you're dealing with.... sic Steve |
