Auto window drop
Is there anyway to disable the window from auto rolling down when opening the door? This is my second tint job and when the window does its auto drop when the door opens it’s causing issues with the tint. The shop will redo it with no issues but it is going to keep happening. Besides not having tint, I was wondering what can be done about stopping the window from its auto drop, if even possible. Anyone else having this issue or should I use a different shop. Also, the tint job is from the inside and it looks great besides the fact that I can see it’s going to lift again soon.
Thanks in advance. |
Get a second opinion for another shop. I’ve had window tint without the same issue.

Get a tint shop that knows how to do frameless windows. I've had 2 BRZs tinted with no issues with the windows.

same no issue with my tint for owning 9 years of my 2013 BRZ

I smoke so my window goes up and down many more times than norm. The only issue I had with tint on either the FRS or 86 was a small tear at the bottom that had nothing to do with the auto up down.
I would much prefer to have my tint risked (not that I have) than my window shatter from being fully up and closed against the seal all the time. |
Pull window fuse.

Auto window drop
The window indexing feature won’t mess with quality tint that’s installed correctly. I’ve had 5 frameless window cars with indexing side windows tinted by 5 different shops and different tints (3M, pinnacle, and expel). None of them caused problems with the tint.
As Tcoat said, the indexing isn’t for show. You’re being fed BS by the installer or they’re really bad at it. |
Having been in a scenario where the auto-drop wasn't working (I think it was dead battery), I wouldn't want that on a daily basis.
There's a high risk the window will interfere with the rain guard on the door frame. Some careful manipulation will allow you to close the door with the window all the way up, but on a daily basis this would be bound to break sooner or later (and probably sooner). |
Definitely installer error. It sounds like they are not aligning the tint far enough under the weather stripping to clear it.

Installer doesn't know they need to leave a gap from the top of the window edge to avoid having the tint stripped by the weather stripping (or they're not leaving enough of a gap). I would ask for a refund and go to another installer: who knows what else they're not paying enough attention to.

My tint goes to the edge. No problems here.
