Clutch replacement
What is a reasonable price for a clutch replacement on a 2013 brz. Just got quoted $3,300.

What.
Did inflation hit that high already? Should be 4-6 hours to do at a shop + ~$450 for Exedy OEM Clutch and Flywheel. Unless your shop is charging $500/hour you're getting ripped off massively. |
If you want to save some money and do it yourself, you can use this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZL_VVZ2xZ4&t=2s

A friend that is a Honda tech offered to do mine on the side for $300 in labor, which I thought was pretty reasonable, however I ended up doing it myself since I found some free time. He said he can get one done in a couple of hours, this was my second time around in the span of 3 weeks and it took about five hours on the floor in the garage.
Obviously you can probably beat what I spent on parts: $33 for OEM clutch release fork $35 for OEM throwout bearing and all three clutch fork clips $29 for Verus clutch pivot $279 for Exedy OEM clutch / pressure plate / throwout bearing / pilot bearing kit (didn't use the throwout bearing since it clearly isn't the same as the OEM updated one) $25 for 2l Motul gear oil (had another left over quart from the other car) About $400 in parts and $300 in labor is about as cheap as it gets if you can't do it yourself. If the throwout bearing was seized for a while you might end up needing a $75 transmission "Front Bearing Retainer Cover", otherwise known as the thing that the throwout bearing rides on. If the car has higher mileage or the flywheel is torched it'd be another $175 for that. |
I think for Brits at least, it's called a quill.

I spent 700$ a few years back. I know inflation is koo-koo but your quote is way out of line.
3k is one of those quotes where the mechanic doesn't want to deal with it, but will, at a crazy price. Or his daughter just got braces or something, yeesh. |
I had it done at the dealer in 2019 for <1400$ with a few extras.
Stock clutch, new flywheel, new TOB, new tranny fluid and new diff fluid. |
