HKS Hi-Power Single Racing V2 vs Spec L V2 (Dual)
I have a 17 BRZ limited with performance package and I can't make up my mind. I have been struggling with this decision for months now. I prefer NA setup. So far the only things I have changed are below
1. Mishimoto Induct Tube (Sound Generator Delete) 2. Michelin PS4S. got rid of stock tires after 4 years. 3. HKS Super Hybrid Intake Filter 4. Redline Full Synthetic Fluid for Rear Diff and Trans 5. Motul dot4 RBF for Brake Fulid 6. Nano Ceramic tint 7. 2 channel dash cam The last thing I wanna change is hks catback exhaust and I will leave everything else stock. Single V2 vs Dual V2? Single Racing V2 Pros 1. The lightest in HKS lineup 2. Cheap ($540) 3. Silencer Included so not too loud 4. Can expect most performance up 5. not sold in Japan Cons 1. Unbalanced look. (one hole is left empty) 2. Probably louder than spec l v2? Spec L V2 Pros 1. The best look in the lineup 2. light 3. not too loud (quieter than single racing v2?) cons 1. heavier than single racing 2. Expensive ($1000-1100) 3. Carbon Fiber tips discontinued (the one I wanted) Which one should I choose? PS= I don't go to track. It is the only car I have now and it is my daily. |
So you are going to spend fairly heavily to change the sound? Am I missing something here? I'm very old. ;)

This is where I got mine from (it is not the carbon fiber as pictured, but the titanium) The dual canister is still fairly light, its moderately loud. |

For the Spec-L2, you can purchase the carbon tips separately. Both systems rated at 90dB, but Spec-L2 slightly quieter at idle with 59dB vs Single V2's 65 dB. Biggest difference is the price and aesthetics, and also the material. The Spec-L2 uses higher quality 304SS which is more rust resistant than the Single V2's 409SS, which explains why it has a black coating, but there's a chance the black coating may peel/flake in the long run. I would personally go for the Spec-L2 between the two. Quote:

OK. Not something I care about. I did have a 69 Cutlass with a 502 and 3" pipes all the way, and it could set off car alarms in parked cars, anytime I wanted. ;) |
I have an original Spec-L on my 2017. Love it. Highly recommend.

Your #4 Pro is not going to happen.
Unless you mean by just weight. |
I have the single exit V2. I love it. Its black and I prefer a single exit on a 4cyl. I bought a left side cutout cover.

Spec L is a dream. Pairs perfectly with my catted headers. Their double resonated front pipe is also a great choice in the event that you decide to go catless headers because it will keep the drone/noise levels at a respectable level. I do have to warn you that they do drone a little. So it is advisable to upgrade your hangers to something thicker like JDM hangers. Is better to replace all 5 instead of the rear 2. Depending where you get them from, takes about a month to get them. |
