How to depin headunit harness pins?
I installed a aftermarket headunit and have been trying to move a pin from the 10pin connector to the 28pin connector. See here: https://imgur.com/nfHKi7j
My (simple) issue is trying to remove the pin from the connectors. Does anyone have a guide/know how to depin these connectors? I have a few pin extractors for depinning but just putting it in the hole above the connectors does not do the trick. These are the connectors I’m trying to depin: https://imgur.com/a/EW1yoKg Thanks. |
There's a crap-ton of various and sundry de-pinning tools and virtually none of them work with a different model connector.

well, the simpler answer is that you can't move anything from the 10-pin to the 28 pin because the pin styles are different sizes.
i also would never re-pin the vehicle-side harnesses. GET ADAPTER HARNESSES AND HACK THEM UP. #triggered re-pinning oem harnesses works great until you need to troubleshoot it after forgetting what you did all those years ago--how do you think i know this one? :( and i know #fuck-the-next-guy™, but re-pinning oem harnesses almost entirely dooms the vehicle to an early death if you sell from being bored of it in 2 years, and they try to re-use those same harnesses in a different way, all the while, it starts popping fuses. an electrician once taught me: don't ever leave a mess for the next guy to fix, because half the time, it means you'll be that next guy." add-on adapter harnesses are less than $50. just get the harness. |
