FR-S Sync rings going out
I have had my 2013 FR-S for about six months now and it has about 109,000 miles on it now. The sync rings are starting to go out and I want to get them fixed but I cannot find anywhere that is willing to do it. I live in Arizona and every transmission shop I have called tells me they are "not comfortable working on that transmission." Does anybody know of any reputable shops which could rebuild or at least replace the synchros in my transmission?

Would probably be cheaper to source a used transmission. They run between 400-600 in my area.
What are the symptoms? What oil and when was the last change? Syncro issues are known, but a lot of times they can be helped a lot with better oil. |
The Main issue is shifting from third to fourth quickly and downshifting from sixth to fifth I get a bit of resistance and some serious grinding. For the transmission fluid it was changed at 101,000 miles (now at 109,000) and I am not sure what they used. Engine oil I use Mobil 1 0-20w extended performance and I changed it about 15 miles ago. What oil are you referring to and what would you recommend?

I'll ring up our manual transmission expert ( @Ultramaroon ) for you. He may have some advice. He may not respond till tomorrow, he is getting a bit long in tooth and needs to get to bed early - ;) |

The transmission is based off the manual transmission that comes in the Toyota Tacoma's...any shop that can rebuild those, can rebuild these.
I suggest buying a rebuilt transmission from Atlanta Speed Company, it'll come with carbon synchronizers and they take your transmission as a core. |
