17 BRZ with Edelbrock SC tune options
Hey all, I'm living near Clarksville TN and I'm trying to find a tuner who can drop an ECUTek tune in me that can support 91-93 octane. My inquiries have gotten... Mixed results.
The goal is to reach around 300HP with everything stock aside from the SC and tune. What I'm seeing is that the injectors and fuel pump pretty much max out at that point. I'm also having a hard time finding a shop that can do a tune that supports both 91 and 93. I frequently move between states and need the flexibility. Is this an unrealistic goal, and does anyone know anybody in the area that can get me hooked up? |
I can't help with finding tuners local to you, but if you mean 300 WHP, my understanding is that won't be possible on 91-93 octane with that setup (all stock + Edelbrock SC). For 300 crank HP, it may be feasible depending on how you look at / interpret the dyno numbers.
Stock BRZ's apparently usually put down 160-170 WHP on the dyno, so if you're talking a 46.3% increase (because 300 is 146.3% of 205, so 234-249 WHP), you need to gain 74-79 WHP. You *should* be able to achieve this pretty comfortably with a remote tune from Delicious Tuning from what they claim. If you're talking about a 95 hp increase (because 300 is 95 more than 205, so 255-265 WHP), then I think that *may* be out of reach without a custom tune. Of course, this is all just from what I've read / researched, not first-hand experience. I'm planning to supercharge my BRZ (either Harrop or Edelbrock) with everything else stock like you, so I've read everything I can get my hands on regarding that combo! |
Supplied edelvrock pully is good for about 12psi boost.
12 psi on 91 is probably not ideal id stick to max 10 psi 93 might be ok depending on quality of fuel. unfortunatly you csnnot alter boist on the fly like turbo so id suggest getting the one size bigfer pully and sticking to 10 psi max boost. Stock pump and injectors will ve fine at 10 psi on petrol you can wven run E85 with flex kit at that boist stock injectors and pump. 300 wheel hp might ve a bit of a stretch if you want it safe. As for 91 and 93 thats easily done with ecutek multi map tune you can just make map1 91 and map 2 93 and do whatwver with the other two say a valet mode or add ecutek features like launch ffs auto blip or pops and crackles |

Hmm strange ive done coiple of edelbrock and on the 3.25 was getting to 11 to 11.5 or so boost round 7000 , has to go to 3.5" pulley to keep it below 10 psi cars had catless header and hi flow cat frontpipe |

While you would not totally rely on the IAM and knock control system on a boosted car, if set up correctly it will save you if you fuel up with a lower octane fuel by mistake thats basicly what the the subaru engineers designed it to to. You may need to move more timing into the Knock correction advance tavle from the base table this make the iam reduction more aggressive at global timing reduction in event of knock detection . You can also make the iam reduction( ie knock detection )make the car run richer. The standard algorythyms in wcu set up to do this as knock reduction strategy. Again not ideal but there is compensation there to cope with bad fuel or lower than expected octane unfortunatly ive seen tunes that dont take advantage of this or tuners that activly try to defeat this logic for some reason like removing timing from the knock advance table or zeroing the fuel compensation map. Another strategy that helps is do your tune at IAM advance multiplier initial at 1. The at the end set it back to 0.7 like factory so the ecu needs to detect minimal knock it will increment the iam to1 and full timing. |
Just remember what has to happen first, for that to even start working.

Not all fuels are created equal even fuel rated at 93 from different sources can perform quite differently especially on boosted cars. USA 91 can is some cases be better than say Canada 93. The subaru knock control strategy works well if set up correctly or not actively knobbled by tune. Pretty well no tune will be 100% knock detection free all the time, there is an acceptable! level of knock detection over which the setting in the ecu will quite aggressivly reduce timing and richen fueling if set up correctly.
