Powder Coating Calipers Question
I plan on doing the CTS-V big brake swap and have already sandblasted them down and have them ready for powder coat. However I'm running into an issue getting the piston boots out of the calipers.
I've watched several videos on disassembly of brembo calipers but none were the CTS-V ones. Which seem to have a metal retaining ring that holds in the boot that the other brembo variants do not have. So my question in relation to powder coating is I was wondering if anyone has baked calipers with the boots in? Directions call for a 15min bake at 400° F. Which means by the time the calipers got up to temp they'd only be that hot for about 10min or so and calipers reach in excess of 400° operating temps for longer durations during tracking and such. So would the boots be fine to just leave in there? |
I might try to give Brembo a call.

It would be easier to help if you posted a picture. Most of us are not going to even know how it looks. Have you tried browsing the CTS forums?

Are you sure that is not part of the seal? All the rebuild kits I can find only include a dust seal and a piston seal.

I attempted to likewise extract the ring using a small flathead screwdriver to pry the ring up from the inside, however both efforts were futile or needed more force which would certainly tear the boot if applied. Would you be so kind as to link those rebuild kits. I'd like to see the contents. |
