OFT or Dyno for first tuning?
I have no experience in tuning cars so I'm kinda on the fence with this process. Everything is stock besides a K&N drop in filter and I plan on getting Tomei UEL headers and an MXP Comp RS catback exhaust. Now I know you have to tune it after installing them but what would be the best route.. oft or a local dyno shop. If it matters I plan on buying the Vishnu oft tab 2.0. Also after installing headers/exhaust should I start with a stage 2 tune?

Budget is the main difference. If dyno tuning is on the table I would talk to your local shops and see if/what Software they recommend.
Oft will provide you with canned tunes. You can also perform custom tuning. Dyno tuning is doable but I know the flash process and talk between open flash manager isn't exactly a speedy process. I did street tuning with a custom oft tune and sending logs via email. |
OFT gives you the convenience of switching between tunes with the touch of a button, stock to stage 2+ and E85. The only drawback is that you get a somewhat standardized power gain.
EcuTek or custom tune will cater to your mods extracting every single HP it can. I guess it should be a good rule of thumb that if you're staying N/A, stick with OFT. If you're planning on boosting, you can always sell the OFT and get Ecutek. Lastly, regarding OFT, if your headers are UNCATTED you will download the Stage 2+. If they are CATTED, is just a normal Stage 2. Check this link from OFT. https://support.openflashtablet.com/...e-requirements |
Ecutek map switching is way quicker and easier than OFT if you have multiple maps.
Get a used OFT 1st, slowly do your mods, once you’re done with FBO sell the OFT for no loss, and get a custom ecutek e-tune. Or you could hit up wayno or steve for a custom OFT tune. |
IMO unless your going Flex Fuel, OFT is the way to go. Get your OFT tune dialed in once all your mods are done as mentioned with Steve or Waymo.
OFT NA and 91/93 and want to run e85 from time to time Ecutek for Boost or Flex Fuel on NA |
I would not get a tune with vishnu/OFT since their turn around time is ridiculous. I would do the OFT with Steve though as he is highly knowledgeable and I refer him to everyone.
Otherwise go with EcuTek/Local. |
