Experts, please, going from Ecutek to HKS?
I bought Ecutek because I converted the EU facelift model to JDM specs (manifolds, final drive, etc, not available in EU) and I used to flash a stock JDM calibration.
Now, I don't need all the features, so I'm planning to sell it; I would like to switch to HKS flash editor (the JDM version, so it has the correct calibrations for my ECU) for a canned tune, even for their specific headers. Will the HKS Flash Editor identify my ECU as modded, and could it be able to flash it stock/tuned? Thanks! |
you won't be able to flash it directly
You ll have to flash back to stock and then with another system like hks (or any system) the license will be lost Are you sure about using hks tune, i have a restyling JDM tune from HKS for supercharger and it's honestly the worst tune i've even seen, they do the bare mininum to the stock tunes to let car run acceptable |

maybe those bin are exctactable , dont know
i got one of those by a guy who read the tune with another system and he read it without problem and now it's flashable by ecutek or tactrix I don't really need them, they d help gpvecchi to have them without throwing away his ecutek licence and kit |
Thanks as usual Tommy, I still hadn't decided what way follow for my engine. It's more for going all JDM in the meantime...
Anyway, I should flash stock JDM map with Ecutek, then reflash stock with HKS and loose my license, then I can reflash it, right? |
flash stock with ecutek with a jdm calid that you know HKS supports in their flash system
When a stock rom is flashed , ecu is unlocked then you just can flash once with the hks system and it will flash and overwrite the ecutek licence forever |
I think you should jist stay eith ecutek
you already have licience in ecu which will be wasted if you go hks flash editor you wont be able to extract hks editpr tunes and i suspect they will be for japanese fuel and likely not particularly suited to your fuel You would be better staying with ecutek and use its usefull features such as full time closed loop fuel control and speed density those features not available on hks you could also have say a 95 and 98 map using ecutek map switching even if your not using flex fuel option you can get a better result with an ecutek remote tune likely cheaper than buy hks editor and tunes |
As Steve said ^^^^^^
It is not a good idea to switch to the HKS editor. A really waste of money. They have much better fuel quality in Japan and the tune won't be optimal with the fuel we have in Europe. Additionally, you'll lose all the extra features of Ecutek. |
Thanks, fuel should not be an issue, premium fuel in Japan is at least 96 octanes, while in Italy we have 95 and 100 (I always use 100, for EU calibrations at least 98 octanes is needed).
I'm actually using ZA1JU01A stock JDM calibration and it works perfectly. I'm not happy with Ecutek, they have very inconsistent support, it's overpriced, it has a lot of features, but many of them useless for a NA street car. It's invasive for the ECU, most master tuners in Europe are really dumb, they are just sellers; in fact, Ecutek in Japan is practically unknown. Do you know if Flash Editor can be updated? I need version 2.29. |
Hate to break it to you, but HKS support is bad also.
Not sure why you don't just remote tune like everyone else does. You already paid for all the "useless for N/A" stuff. (Not sre what that even means) You are not getting any significant money back if you even sell the cable. The license is tied to the ECU and you cant untie it. But hey, it's your money to burn. Personally (after looking through all your other threads) I'd stop drinking so much of the JDM4LYFE Kool-Aid. Just because it's JDM does not make it better. gpvecchi Do you have this sticker on your car? https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....AC_SL1435_.jpg |
i don't think it's overpriced, it's very unique and a powerfull tool, custom maps are amazing to have
The support is one of the greatest support I ever encountered actually... they haven't learnt yet how to upload correctly all the stock tunes for the retail people like us but if you make a mess while flashing, with ecutek you fix it very easily, and if you don't they help you very quickly If it's useless for you and you want a basic logic tune without any extra because your car is NA and you do not need them, it's not the product that is faulty HKS tunes are rich and have stupid ignition timing and they modify cam timing only on Open loop pulls, because you know , it's easy to do a quick safe tune on a dyno in few time... the rest of the tune, the closed loop zone) it's basically stock And they are OTS tune, exactly like stock and openflash tunes OFF THE SHELF is a compromise, a tune that must function acceptably in EVERY gt86 of the world, in any climate With ecutek you buy a kit that is HIGHLY resellable (the HKS only JDM fanboys will buy it, if you find someone paying for that OVERPRICED instrument...) You custom tune you car perfectly for you usual fuel and average weather condition, if the tuner keeps your tune unlocked you could even do small modifications You can set failsafe against any thing comes in your mind that comes from a sensor, You have different timing tables and maps for different fuel (since you re in italy, try ENI 100 ron and WR100 and look at the logs for AFR and knocks.. same octane rating, but different quality and combustion speed will make a noticeable difference) You can find many good purpose for the extras and the custom maps even for NA street cars |
