86GT rocker panel damage help
Hi,
I very slowly pulling out of my Base's new parking lot hit a curb on my passenger side rear rocker panel area. Can anyone with experience take a look at the photos and tell me what's going on? Is there any structural damage? PDR Costs? Bodyshop Costs? I'd really prefer to do PDR versus bodyshop. https://ibb.co/b6YvFq3 https://ibb.co/6WjD9Vq https://ibb.co/VHGwtLB https://ibb.co/S78h8KG https://imgur.com/RZmLXlr https://imgur.com/ap3xDVe https://imgur.com/SrhqgdR https://imgur.com/o0RPONt https://imgur.com/RZmLXlr https://imgur.com/ap3xDVe https://imgur.com/SrhqgdR https://imgur.com/o0RPONt |
the paint is cracked/flaked off, and heavily scratched. PDR really shouldn't be an option here.

Ya not a candidate for PDR I am afraid.
It is need paint. Through insurance that is probably around $2,000 in most of Canada Out of pocket between $800 and $1,500 depending on the shop. Prices may vary depending o region and quality but those are some safe ball park figures. In comparison this was $2,400 through insurance and they would have done for $1,200 cash or $1,800 with receipt and warranty. |
90% of the twins that have side skirts are because they have damage to the rocker. Myself included.

Honestly I screwed up and drove slightly over a curb on one side in a dark parking lot on a rainy night once. Usually super careful. The sideskirt I had got broken and I got a little one inch or so crease/"dent" in the button of my rocker. I never had it fixed.
I think it's important to make sure the paint is still intact (mine was as far as I could tell), and if it isn't then definitely get it repainted or touched up to avoid rust. But after that, :iono:. I just bought a replacement sideskirt to go over it. I still cry myself to sleep about it on occasion but shit happens. And nobody ever knows it's there. :bonk: |

No way is that even remotely close to PDR. That needs to be repaired. You're looking at about 7-9 hours repair time (thanks to that nasty indent on the edge) plus R&I's and then blending of the front door as well. **EDIT ** There should be no structural damages, at least none that I can see or would expect to see Is that a tri-stage paint? If so, blend times/paint times are higher as well. I am going to take a stab at $1,700 depending on the shop and depending on tri-stage or not. Also depending on anything additional that may be found after DFR (disassemble for repair) |

The sound of my front end being swiped off by a guardrail will not be one I will forget either. This is when I damaged my rocker. You can kind of see it here behind the mud. I wasn't too concerned with it relative to the other damage. https://i.imgur.com/hp2eJSs.jpg |
I had my rocker panel repaired @ Vaughan fine touch, 7 Caldari Rd, Concord, ON L4K 4N8 back in 2017 under 800. Exact same damage if not worse in the exact same place, they did a first rate job on mine. I would go back to them anytime. The blending job on the paint was perfect for me. After that is when I went and bought side skirts, cheaper to replace them than body work.

I feel your pain, I did a similar thing same area, same side on my WRBP brz a few years ago.
I got a bunch of quotes from $800 - $3500(shop wanted to remove the door and R/I the window etc. Chose a shop that is very reputable in my area, $1200 without going through insurance. Cant tell it was ever touched. |
I have a couple dents and a little crease on my BRZ rocker - which were there when I bought it. I’ve been contemplating how to handle it as well.
While we’re on the topic - anyone suggest skideskirts that would best blend with the original front and rear bumpers on BRZ or FRS? Guessing TRD, maybe Baruta? |
