2015 BRZ Ticking Noise

4 wonderful years with my brz with zero problems up until recently after taking it in for a oil change. I've noticed that my car sounds a lot louder than usual. It noticeably gets louder while cruising on the freeway, but can't pinpoint the origin of what may be causing it to sound louder. It has 65,000 miles and all basic maintenance has been done to the car promptly. Ive attached a link with a short recording of my car idling and it doesn't seem to sound normal. Any advice would be appreciated!

I assume this isn't the classic crickets?

Sounds like hydraulic lifters to me (I assume the BRZ has hydraulic lifters, seems like every car does nowadays). Check your oil level just in case but otherwise it's normal.

My car didn't even have the cricket noise until I spun a rod bearing (presumably) and swapped in an engine with lower mileage.

I found Toyota overfilled my engine by out 2 quarts. Drained it and refilled with the proper amount. I called them and they said they'd investigate. Never got back to me. Hmm...

Yeah, check your level.

thanks for the replies! I will double check my oil level today. I do hear the crickets but what i find more concerning is while driving for a prolonged time, about 20 plus minutes, the engine bay starts to sound like a jet airplane. would with be normal due to wear and tear?

Does it still make the noise if you are in neutral coasting?

As posted on the "other" forum here is my reply :

If this ticking noise has appeared just after the oil change than it's most likely due to what has just been done. Is there any check engine light? Which oil did you use? Different oil viscosity can cause increased noise in a direct injection application. Also did you use the stock oil filter? The stock one is definitely recommended.

From what I hear on your video I would not be too concerned. Check you oil level too. Might also be a pulley starting to go. Definitely nothing internal.
