broke it again, anyone evern seen this

Today while on a fairly spirited drive smoke came from under the hood and filled the cabin and behind the car looked like a Nascar blown engine. I started coasting to see if I could here anything. Oil pressure good no noise. Upon further investigation I was getting oil sprayed onto my header. The oil was coming from a hole in the valve cover. The valve cover looked like it threw a rod and put a hole in it. Obviously that didn't happen because the engine still runs fine. If anyone has seen this type of damage please chime in and let me know what the culprit was that caused this unusual damage.
I'll pull the engine this weekend to see what the problem is. I was unable to get any pics due to the location.
Thanks for any input.

Probably a rocker arm got spit out. What year? Seems weird that it runs fine.

That was my guess but he has a 2020 :iono: I suppose they are not immune to the issue just being a later model.

I'm not so sure. All of his threads are engine rebuild questions, including valve shims, trans swap inquiries, etc for a 2013 FRS. Maybe he has 2 cars. It seems like this 2013 has been through multiple engines

That would make a lot more sense. Would be nice if people who posted these help threads would put mods and history, never seems to be the case.

Reading through the post history I am totally baffled by what is going on.

The car was not running "fine" 4 days ago...

I’m assuming he fixed that problem unless it is normal to him to go on a spirited drive with two cylinders and a CEL.

Best guess based on the information: a bolt backed out or broke, hit the valve train then was shot out of the valve cover.

I did the around and around thing. Built the engine then spun a bearing. Built the engine again and blew the transmission. Then the high pressure fuel rail popped loose, towed home again. Then I blew the head gasket. Some of it was my fault alot of was the huge turbos fault. It was fun while it lasted.

Was the hole punched from the inside - out or the outside - in?

The pockets in the rockerarms are not deep enough to hold it in place.
2014+ has deeper pocket rockers, longer valves and different pivots(lifters).

Out of curiosity. In your experience, do you see a way to improperly assemble the head to where the car will run for a while and then have the rocker arm kick out? I don't see how it could be, just seems to be a sporadic failure in the early engines.
