Maintenance Cost of AT Extension Housing Seal Replacement
2013 Subaru w/ 73k miles
Transmission Extension Housing Seal (P/N 17009AA020) leak Dealership quoted $281 to replace the seal and reseal housing (~3 hours?), is this reasonable? I called an independent repair shop and they also quoted me $280-$320 off the top of their head with no visuals. Sorry for the noob question (I searched the forums and only 2 topics came up that were both covered under warranty). Thanks in advance! |
I did this job myself. It is pretty easy to DIY, remove driveshaft, get the seal puller pull out seal, i used a pvc pipe from home depot and rubber mallet to pop her back in. hardest part is locating the correct seal puller, with that tool it should be about 2 hours from putting on jacks to off jacks. Obviously a lot of shops add another hour or so to jobs for any issues/ to make more money, so 3 hour quote isn't unreasonable.

Ohhh that's good to know. It seems straight forward from the service manual but I have no experience with cars hah. Thank you!!

Or, if you're over 75 years old, it's reasonable. |
