Aftermarket axleback fitment

Hello guys,

I've finally received my axleback, and got round to fitting it last weekend. Only things didn't go as well as I'd hope, as fitment isn't fantastic.

As you can see in the pictures, I can't raise the driver's side tip as much as I'd like to, and there's also a symmetry issue when looking from the top.

Have I done anything wrong in fitting the exhaust? I'm under the impression that this is an issue with the axleback's design, what do you think?

Would it be a terrible idea to just slightly "persuade" the tubes to get closer to each other (with a hammer)? I just need to gain about 1/3rd of an inch where they meet.

You can likely adjust how far that right side stick out by bending the hanger.

Yeah that doesn't worry me too much.

The height issue, however, does!

You could likely find shorter rubber pieces if you were so inclined. Also in the center of the exhaust system there is a metal hanger that offers some adjustment that you might be able to get a little vertical movement out of.

Come to think of it, I could probably solve the height issue by bending the rear silencer hangers down a little bit.

Now they're almost half an inch diameter, so that could prove an interesting challenge :D

You’re likely going to need tighter poly exhaust hangers anyway. The hangers on your aftermarket exhaust aren’t flared like the stock ones are. It will slide off the hangers during vigorous cornering if you don’t replace them with tighter ones. Cusco makes a nice 12mm set, and they’re a little bit shorter as well.

They're not flared on the outer edge, but have a higher diameter "ring" on the inner side that sits on the rubber hangers which you can sort of see on the picture above. Having that on all four corners would very much negate the risk of it sliding off, as it prevents the metal from sliding too far into the hanger.

I was thinking of using a screw collar to bring that risk down to 0:

I missed that.
The small hole clamps work great as a temp fix, that's how I held my Greddy on until the new hangers showed.

Well I did a fair bit of hanger-bending, and it's much better now. Gained about 1/2 an inch in tip-to-bumper distance:
