Steering clunk/pop
Hi everyone i was wondering if anyone could help me out.
Does anyone know what sound this is? Im running aftermarket coils. But i didnt have this problem anout a month ago . Its during low speed. The video is when the car is raised. Thanks in advance https://youtu.be/FidmLSL26DI |
Can you get a video of the spring doing the same kinda wheel turning?
|
The spring doesnt move. Or pop from what i can see.
All my bushings look fine. Has anyone had any steering column noise? The only thing i could think of actually making noise is the spring itself, swaybar/endlink, bearings, busbings, or steering rack/axle/cv. https://youtu.be/Bgi_b00BOBI |
Hmm, not the case of EPS motor coupler fix by chance? I don't recall vids of what noises were be in case for that failure though, and it was more of called "rattle" then such clunking .. probably would have asked someone else to turn wheels multiple times, while one listens from below of car to try locate noise source more exact direction.

I know I've had my electronic steering motor replaced under warranty.

That doesn’t sound like the EPS coupling. The EPS coupling also didn’t make noise unless you have quick load reversal, not smooth inputs like this. The EPS clunk is most easily replicated driving straight on a dirt or gravel road.

Steering clunk/pop
Stock top hats?
You could try the screwdriver stethoscope trick to better pinpoint the location. I’d start at the top of the spring perch and top hat bearing. |
So i have camber plates.
I didnt have this issue about a month ago. |

Nice to hear. It would be beneficial though to tell others what exact problem was.

Sorry about that.
So i took it to a mechanic after weeks of being unable to self diagnose. the souund is coming from the steering column itself past the steering rack/pinion towards the steering wheel. suspension, steering rack, axles/joints are all clear. |

I am now having this same exact issue tried self diaging and can’t figure it out.
I’ve eliminated everything from the steering rack down being the culprit. I have even twisted the steering shaft coming up above the rack on a lift and the noise is Defintly coming from inside the cabin. It is not my eps at least doesn’t match any of the noises. It only clunks when gently shifting the steering wheel left and right. For the love of this community! Please bestow upon me the knowledge you have on solving this issue it is driving me crazy! |
