Drive Side Door Not Locking

Hey guys, I've done a search and found some information around the issue but nothing concrete. I'm having a problem with my door lock, but I was curious if someone has experienced this issue, and what part was it that failed?

It's a 2014, The driver side does not lock from the inside when using the switch. When setting the alarm with the keyless entry, and locking the doors, the driver side does not lock.

Recently someone got into my car and took some stuff, then found out my door hasn't been locking this whole time. I have to do it manually before getting out, and using the key to open the car.

Thank you if anyone can point me in the right direction!

Try getting a replacement switch. They are common and cheap, just get the section that has the lock buttons and window switches

Yeah if it is mechanically working I would also assume it was the switch.

In addition to the switch, there has to be a solenoid or motor actuator between the switch and the mechanical locking mechanism. Not sure if this is a separate part or just what.

I'd blame the motor before the switch. I remember that another person with the same issue discovered grease had contaminated the commutators on the motor.

Awesome, thank you guys. I'm gonna take a look into this further and see what I can rule out. I know for sure the does lock and unlock by the key.

When I lock the car through the keyless, I hear the passanger side lock. and If i'm not mistaken. I hear the driver side try to do something quickly but just doesn't.

switches tend to affect all locks, not just one side. my bet is on something with the actuator

The rod from the actuator may have become disconnected from the lock mechanism. Without resistance, the actuator moves "quickly". Different rods connect the manual lever and the key-actuated mechanism to the lock.

I had this problem with my Yaris. I took apart the actuator and replaced the little motor (I could have cleaned the factory one, but I felt better just replacing it). Works fine now.

That's for the Yaris, but I'd imagine the twins' would be fairly similar.

Thank you! There's actually a couple folks who have posted videos on disassembling the door panel on youtube! :)

I'm going to replace the actuator though, because it seems to have a dirty contact problem as mentioned earlier in the thread and see if it works.

If you can find out the size of the motor, you can probably save quite a bit of money by just replacing it, versus replacing the whole actuator assembly.
