Exhaust advice for deep rumble but not too loud
 

I'm looking for some advice on how to finish my exhaust. I want the deep boxer rumble without any rasp or drone, I also don't want it to be super loud. I already have a cat-less JDL UEL header and a stage 2 tune. The car is mostly a daily driver, with a few track days a year.

From watching some videos I like the sound of the N1 (with JDL UEL) at idle, but its too loud under power. It also seems like the 2.5" perrin is a popular option

What you're looking for probably doesn't exist. You don't get a deep rumble without being loud. The larger the diameter the pipe, the deeper the tone. But also 3"pipe will like to drone. "Tuner" cans are more inclined to drone too. Resonators will help with drone but it's not absolute. Cats will help with volume and drone the most but I dunno if you still get rumble with cats

This might get you in the right direction. I have that muffler and a 1320 uel and it fits this bill you're asking.

There is a name brand version of the exact axleback. I think it's the greddy but only comes as a Catback.

Also I had my uel with an N1 clone and let me tell you that bitch screamed from 1300 to 3000 for daily driving shifting. It was stupid.

Get a Q300

heres the deal, keep the stock front pipe, front pipe swaps do nothing but make the car raspy and tinny (or so the forum tells me)

at far as a catback: single exits are the loudest because all the exhaust gasses only go through a single muffler. next loudest are the N1 style (what i have), then the quietest catbacks are invidia Q300 style, where all the exhaust gasses pass through a central massive muffler before exiting.

Edit: when your going about town its nice to have a subtle exhaust, but when you step on it occasionally dont you want to hear it? its not like driving to the shops with a light foot is going to be obnoxiously loud if you keep a limit to your throttle

id opt for N1 style, whats the point of spending time and money putting on a q300 style just for a tiny increase in sound. get your moneys worth.

Greddy Supreme SP catback. Deeep at idle and low RPMs, quiets down enough at high RPMs so you can hear the engine up front. Quiet, almost stock when cruising. It sounds perfect IMO, it's very well made and much more affordable than Perrin/Corsa. I’ve seen them for sale new for under $750 shipped.

Disagree, you can increase the rumble while keeping it relatively conservative, but the tradeoff is more weight with the added packing material.

Magnaflow has a deep rumble, but is still pretty civil. Keep in mind that any exhaust you choose save the q300 will be louder than stock. Oh, also comes with lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the recommendations thus far. I'm ok with the exhaust being louder, I just want it to be civil and tolerable as a daily driver.

After reading the following thread I'm starting to lean towards the 2.5in resonated perrin. Thoughts?

I can confirm the TRD (at least the version I have) sounds throaty and amazing!

Keep in mind TRD mid pipe is actually smaller in minimum cross-section (about 0.25") than the stock exhaust. Before and after dynos are hard to come by, but I personally wasn't okay with spending TRD prices on something smaller diameter than stock.
