Socket won't fit aftermarket lug well
 

Hi so I got some new aftermarket wheels and used my stock lugnuts. Problem is that the 3/4 wrench and 19mm socket does not fit the lug well of the wheel? It barely fits and is basically unable to turn. Any solutions to this??

Does a thin wall socket fix this issue and also is there a thin walled lug wrench?

Unlikely if the socket isnt fitting.


Might be time to get aftermarket lug nuts, which often use 17mm or spline/other designs that are a bit narrower

Any recommendations on spline lugnuts that won't break the bank? Preferably black. Thanks

If you need something quick till you buy some nice ones go to any auto parts store. You'll find something

If you are using Harbor Freight they are thick walled. Snap-On is thin. They need to be thicker to be as strong.

20 steel nuts in various styles from $40.

Don't buy cheap alloy.

Or, spend lots because meh....drunk consuming on Ebay, the Project Mu stop the wheel from falling off

I mean gorilla lug nuts work well and dont break the bank.

Factory lug nuts are like 2.50 per, so... they seem to work fine and are inexpensive.:iono:

Stock lugs don't seat properly on aftermarket wheels. The angle part is a ball style and not a 60 degree. I had a shop mount my wheels when I first got tires mounted and thats what they did. The wheels would shift as the lug was digging into the lug holes. Ended up stripping 5 studs and breaking 2 studs off when changing back to winters on stock rims.

As Leonardo wrote, OEM for twins are conical seat 60deg taper, which often referred as "tuner style lugnuts" (which is nice thing, as most aftermarket wheels have such kind of lugnut seat).
So if there for whatever reason ball seat lugnuts appeared in, exactly because aftermarket, not stock, wheels. IIRC ball style was common for VAG cars stock wheels.

Thats what I was told, that OEM was a different seat that 60 deg conicals. Thinking about it for a minute now, and the stocks were probably just too large to fit all the way down to the bottom of the aftermarket wheels.

So, let me see if I am understanding what you are saying. Your wheel's lug nut holes are small and probably require tuner style lug nuts. Meaning the diameter of the OEM lug nut was too large to fit all the way down the hole in the wheel. So, when the lug nut felt tight, it was actually just binding with the walls of the hole not the seat.
