Swapping 2016 MT engine into 2013 MT
Just pulled the motor since the one in the 2013 blew. Is the 2016 engine a direct swap into the 2013? Both are MT. Is there anything i need from the 2013 to make it work? I dont need to flash anything to the ECM if im using the old ecm & tranny right?
Not even gonna bother with the 2017+ motors since there a ton of work involved and i just want to get the car running. Then i’ll probably build a engine and slap the turbo back on |
Should be a straight easy swap. No need to flash the ECM. If you can grab the trans with the motor as well, that will make it an even easier swap.
I crashed my FRS at the track, bought a BRZ with a spun bearing. I swapped the motor and trans from my FRS to BRZ and had it running on a Monday evening after work. |

Nope. Just a little work involved if swapping over some parts or removing them if your replacement engine didn't have the same transmission option. Manuals just have a block-off plate. |

P.S. I was also able to get a tune for my flexfuel kit too so didn't have to drain all the E85 from the tank. |

Thought about the '17+ motor, but I've heard it's not worth it for all the hassle. |

I came upon this video, and its very very detailed. Guy uses 2019 engine but swaps over all the 2013 components to make it work. Worth watching if you have the time and need to do the swap. [ame="http://youtu.be/pqxW9UNMBUU"]http://https://youtu.be/pqxW9UNMBUU[/ame] |

Reason I ask is that I am in the same boat that I have a spun bearing and need a replacement motor. I have a 2013 FRS and am able to locate a 2015 motor (not planning on getting the tranny). Just researching to ensure that this is possible with no issues. |
