Catless + Q300 = Decent daily?
 

Hi peeps,

Big question. Here's my setup and you tell me what you think:

1) 1320 UEL catless headers
2) 1320 overpipe
3) high flow catless front pipe
4) Stock midpipe
5) Dual resonator custom axleback

I want something with less drone. Driving around in earplugs is embarrassing. (Very sensitive ears)

My buddy can sell me his Q300 for a good deal, but will it help the drone? Heard really good things for the Q300, drone is the biggest thing.

I doubt it does pops and bangs but if it does than I'm buying it 100%.

Thoughts?

Does your custom axleback have mufflers? If so, the Q300 probably won't be much quieter.

You can go back to a stock front pipe to soften the noise a bit, as a high-flow cat doesn't really do much anyways..

Ah, okay that's damn near a straight pipe almost. Yes a Q300 would make it a lot quieter!

Just weld in 2 resonators in your current frontpipe.

Doesn't cost alot, and will reduce drone more than a Q300 ever could.

Get a custom midpipe with nice resonator or muffler [emoji2377][emoji2377][emoji2377]

He is using the OEM midpipe which has a resonator.

His issue is drone from UEL and no cats, the front pipe can easily be fixed by adding in a couple of resinators, that "should" kill the drone, then if required, he needs to look at mufflers to knock down the volume.

Not if it's NA, and not that far down the pipe where the exhaust gases have cooled, alot, thus reducing volume.

When I was playing NA the only real restriction I found was the 2 cats.

The smaller OEM midpipe back exhaust size may actually aid in keeping the exhaust gas velocity.

Maybe????

Fluid dynamics is cool, and magical, like unicorns....maybe magical unicorn exhaust science.

All we need is a RPM, exhaust size and temp at the overpipe, exhaust size and temp at the midpipe and lots of math which I will not attempt.......because stupid.

Honestly I think I'll still do q300 instead of experimenting with resonators.

I am confident it will reduce drone based on a lot of digging.

I've ran completely stock catback with no cats, header and test pipe. It droned very badly and made horrible sounds. I doubt it will reduce the drone much if you insist on no sound deadening in your front pipe.

Hmm... I've heard otherwise.

However I'll give it a shot, and if it's still as bad as you've experienced I'll explore other avenues.

Worse come to worse , you can just slap on some resonators later. Plus quality of exhaust sounds can be somewhat subjective. Some people think the sound of tin cans vibrating against each other sounds good.

If you think about the location of the front pipe it makes sense. you have something smack dab in the middle vs at the very end of the entire length of the exhaust. which placement of the (smack dab, or at the very end) do you suppose would have a bigger effect on reducing total vibrations or changing the frequency or amplitude? Good thing is that Q300 probably sound 10 time better than the OE chambered muffler.
