Changing Automatic Transmission Fluid
Hello guys! I recently did a motor swap on my 2013 FR-S & threw in a 2016 FA20 from a BRZ, the car is automatic. On the first start there was a loud squealing noise coming from the back of the motor (sounded like the accessory belt squeal). After a while I realized that I didn't add any ATF into the transmission so I got some of Toyota's WS ATF.. I did some research on the forums & they said to drain it, refill until its dripping out of the transmission which should have only taken 2.1 quarts.. Mine took about 4 quarts for anything to show up, is this normal after a motor swap since most of it came out with pulling the motor? Need someone to point me in the right direction as I'm not sure what to do about the whole situation & not trying to start it again in case it causes more damage to the transmission. Below is a video of what the car sounds like.

Hello strapped and welcomed to our forum -
First off, I can't hear anything in your video except the exhaust sound. So, you added 4 quarts to the transmission not knowing how much was in there? Therefore, you don't know how much oil is in the transmission at this time? I'd suggest you research the maintenance manual (available here on the forum) about changing the AT fluid. Then check the DUI section for some hints. humfrz |

It is likely 2.1 quarts in the transmission pan alone.
ATF fluid also sits in the torque converter, and ATF cooler & lines, if the car has one. So a "drain & fill" is probably 2.1 quarts, but the complete capacity of the system is much more. |
