Noise when turning steering wheel at low speed

This has been bothering me since the day I picked up the car. I searched and searched and couldn't find a single complaint about it so hopefully it's normal or I'm in the minority.

So, when moving at slow speeds, like going into a parking space or up a driveway, there is this faint noise when I turn the steering wheel quickly say more than a half revolution. Sounds kind of like a rubbing noise of some sort. Does this happen on yours?

Edit: Oops, forgot to mention, the noise comes from around the steering wheel / steering column area.

If this is coming from the rear of the car then it's the LSD. A small amount of noise is normal at very low speed turning from my understanding. I only have that noise in the morning after a cold start.

Electric power steering does have a slight noise when being applied quickly at low speed.

The LSD noise will be tyre slip on the inside wheel that you'll almost kind of feel through the seat.

Almost 100% sure you are hearing the power steering electric motor. There was a YouTube video where Subaru engineers discuss the unique chassis and they pointed out that in order to get the steering rack positioned right to allow the low flat engine they moved the electric power steering motor to the steering column on the cabin side of the firewall. There might be something in the manual saying a slight occasional whine from the steering column is normal.

It's the Electric Power Steering module...it's completely normal, it's just the motor assisting you in turning the steering wheel.

Thanks everyone for your responses. My previous MINI Coopers S had a distinct steering whine which sounded more "electric" or "robotic" if there's such a thing which was normal for its electric assisted steering. The 86's noise is more "mechanical" type of noise that's what got me worried.

Glad to hear it's normal. Cheers.

I swapped to Final Drive 4.88 and now the car not passed 100miles
diff assembled very good and I hear no noise in straight line but in sharp turning at very low speed i hear bad noise , lap lap lap lap lap noise.

my car has LSD but i used addinol diff oil that has not LSD additive

any idea for removing the noise?

I have the exact same sound which I attributed to the electric power steering. I'm hearing it in the same situations you are. Nothing to worry about imo.
