Stage 1 Brake Kit FT86SpeedFactory
Hey guys, I'm new here!
I just recently got a 2015 FR-S, the brake pads are going to need to be changed and it's looking like I'll need new rotors/have them resurfaced. Since I'm having to do this I figured I'd upgrade the brake system for more stopping power (want to install a supercharger kit in the near future). I was looking at FT86SpeedFactory's Stage 1 kit. Is this a good option to go with? I did a bit of research and I'm looking at that kit with the Ferodo DS2500 front/rear pads. Any suggestions feedback for going this route? |
My setup: Carquest Platinum Fr rotors, cut stock rears, WINMAX W3 Pads all around. Stoptech SS lines and BG Dot4 fluid. FLUSH YOUR BRAKE FLUID NO MATTER WHAT.
It should be plenty. I could lock my front tires at 50mph with little effort. I had 245 Conti Extreme DW on at the time. Theres a bit of squeal now and then, and the dust is about a high-medium. 6-7/10 |

ABS keeps you from locking up, but the stock brakes are quite capable. Centric blanks, and the DS2500 is a good street/autox pad (I've used them on track sprint too). Probably OK starters on track but easy to outgrow. |
Like mentioned, pick up some good pads (DS2500, Porterfield R4S's are a good dual duty pad, especially for starting track work), centric blank rotors, and new DOT4 fluid. That's all you need.
Like mentioned a BBK doesn't so much increase stopping power (that is pads and tires), but more increases the heat capacity of the braking system (only needed for track work). |

I'm very new to this whole platform/performance car thing. If my thought processes on how these things work is wrong please correct me. |
Basically, unless youre tracking 400hp, or putting a 2J in it, good pads and fluid goes a long way. Counter Space Garage sells street pads for $300+ an axle. My WinMax were $135 an axle. My only advise when shopping is avoiding a dedicated autocross pad. The fluctuation in friction might catch you off guard, especially on track.
