Reverse lockout ring pin is missing, but acting like it is there.

My reverse lockout ring pin is missing, I can shine a light through the hole with a flashlight or put a very thin screwdriver through the hole, the pin is not there. Nevertheless, I cannot remove the lockout and the whole thing behaves like the pin is there.

I only noticed this because I was trying to remove the lockout to put some Teflon tape on the shaft to stop the rattling.

Any ideas what is going on and how to remove he lockout ?

Keep in mind the pin is a roll pin (also known as a spring pin), which is spring steel that is not a complete pin. There is a split on one side and a hole in the middle. You compress the pin to keep tension on the joint and keep the pin in place.

Yep. Use a 3/32" roll pin punch (has a small bearing on the end).

It is best to use an actual punch. If you try and knock it out with something that is close in size but not quite right you might flare the pin and then you have to drill it out. I bought a cheap one on amazon and it did just fine.

^ this

having the exact sized punch is the difference between getting the pin out in a few seconds (literally) vs huffing and puffing and getting nowhere for half an hour

I use a 3 mm socket head cap screw to drive it out. They're a common hobby store item. Screws right into the plastic. Easy peezy & no trauma.

This makes sense. Mystery solved. Thank you.
