removing cats go on my record in NOVA?
I went to get safety inspection, which i thought i could pass with catless front pipe but i failed. Put the stock one and went back. The inspector told me, it goes on my record that i removed cat. Is that true? Anyone got in trouble with cops being catless?

Did they issue you a citation or charge you with anything?

In Connecticut they can suspend your registration for not passing inspection within the timeframes but that's about it. There are fines you can get by actual DOT cops but they are only infractions (pay a fine, goes away after 3 yrs, not a moving violation so won't go towards getting your license suspended). I assume this is like California or something?

To me it sounds like it was just noted for future inspections. So in the future the inspector will see that and know to check that for every inspection in the future, since your marked as someone who might try and sneak one by.

Should of just punched out your OEM header.
All of the performance gains of catless, well more if your talking about a UEL header, but with none of the visual risk. |

The Clean Air Act "EPA may seek civil penalties or injunctive relief (including remediation of the violations and projects to offset excess emissions) for violations of the Act and regulations, and may bring cases in federal district court or through an administrative process. Violators are subject to civil penalties up to $45,268 per noncompliant vehicle or engine, $4,527 per tampering event or sale of defeat device, and $45,268 per day for reporting and recordkeeping violations. 42 U.S.C. § 7524; 40 C.F.R. § 19.4." Maybe you will get off easy with just an event infraction - :iono: :sigh: humfrz |
I may or may not run completely catless and I live in nova. Emissions they obviously have to test (via post exhaust o2 sensor and direct connection via ecu to pre and post cat o2 sensors) but safety inspection is a visual check for a cat. They can fail your safety for not having cats but if they don’t actually check, not much you can do. As for going on your “record”, all emissions inspections go through a government database to verify for registration reasons but from my understanding it’s more of a pass/fail situation rather than “this person has no cats, fine them immediately”. I believe a safety inspections have a pass/fail system too. But all that is to make sure someone doesn’t fake their registration or something.

Any dyno sheets of your car specifically between stock header, decatted stock header and any other aftermarket, catless header you've had on your own personal car? See you spouting off about decatted OEM headers, but as far as I can tell, it's all just hearsay, butt dyno drivel. Also, I believe you meant to say "Should have" to start your post off. The Queen would be offended by your bastardization of her beautiful language. |

Note: visual test, I said nothing about sniffer test. Attacking grammer, spelling or sentence structure is a weak come back, but feel free to knock my claims, that's what a forum is about, in the end, people will take all the information, hit it with a hammer, and come up with their own conclusions, hopefully based of real world testing and sound engineering principles, not some random punter just poo pooing someones findings because it isn't what they think. My claims, yeap, my claims. The OEM decatted performed typically to a Tomei UEL header. Basically a UEL header on a little NA 4 pot is a bad idea. Opinions may vary. I'm impressed that you have been following along with my testing, I'm not sure how as you are in Canadia. You can do the testing yourself if you like, I've got a Tomei UEL header in the for sale section, the one I used, if you don't mind paying for the shipping, or how about a swap, I will sway for a aftermarket EL header, that going to be my next port of call. As for dyno, why do people put so much faith in something that is for tuning, and so easily manipulated. 99% if the dyno results you see mean nothing, either fudged, smoothed or taken at different times with different conditions. For straight up power gains a 0-100 and 1/4 are a better judge. It is funny how most these "dyno" claims fall flat on their face at the track. Anyways, enjoy your righteousness. I will continue to enjoy playing with my car and coming to my own conclusions. God save the queen  |

Too bad the things you claim that actually matter, you post no 0-100 times or 1/4 mile times. Guess you must be on the same level as the guy who claimed his epoxy based custom intake netted him 222 rwhp |

As you spew your gospel.......what testing have you done? Or are you just all talk. Either way, I care not, if I want to find out something I try it. I, you, they, can post any number, what does that prove, I wouldn't trust 99% of what people say on the interwebs, why should they trust me. If you want a dyno for a catless OEM header with a catless 2.5" exhaust I can give you that, not that it really means anything in the real world. Keep up the good work and I wish you luck with your search for thr truth. See pointless build thread > http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133311 See pointless dyno from initial tune some months ago > |
