Transmission rattle
2013 frs manual 125k
There is a rattle coming from tranny and goes away when clutch is pressed. Replaced the clutch with exedy few months ago. Throw out and pilot bearing shouldve been replaced. Done by dealer. It's not a whine, its rattling like a loose bolt inside the bell housing. What bearing do u think is going bad. |
None. It's normal. Rattle started when thick factory trans fluid was replaced with something that doesn't hide the noise as well.
Google "neutral rollover." As long as it's quiet when under torque, and shifts properly, motor on happily. |
Hmm really...
But the rattle been getting more frequent. It used to come and go. But today it's been doing it pretty consistent. I've been using motul for almost a year. And the rattle only started couple months ago. |
Oh, I'll change my opinion in a heartbeat. I'm on my second transmission. It's a long story but I know exactly what I did to my first. Other experienced ears couldn't hear it but I know I found the limit. I took it out of service to keep it from wearing out of whack before getting around to replacing the input shaft bearing. Besides, I want to build a track-only trans. I digress.
If you gently lean on each of the syncros just for a moment with the clutch disengaged, engine idling, does the sound change dramatically? Also, I've heard of TOB retaining pins falling out. I'll listen for it with my headphones if you post a recording. |
Have you tried turning the A/C off to see if it goes away? Mine started when I put a lightweight flywheel on. Supposedly this is normal harmonic vibration noise. Probably not good for the transmission long term but nothing you can do about it but go back to stock.

Did you replace the flywheel or at least get it resurfaced?

my transmission is sounding the same, i drop it last night TOB and everything looks normal. input shaft does have some play to it. i'm thinking a need a new trans cause it is hard to even put into gear at a stand stiff with the clutch fully pressed.
