Possible solution for notchy shifting in second
I have been experimenting with an issue a lot of us are experiencing. The less then smooth shift into second gear, especially when the engine is cold.
I noticed a significant improvement when slightly adjusting the plate as illustrated in the picture. It is a bit of work to tear the interiour apart but it is worth a try. The adjustment was minimal but it seems that the shifter is better positioned to slide into second. I thought I'd share. https://i.imgur.com/yw7u900.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WjeVjmb.jpg |
Thanks, looks like an interesting fix. Why the dashboard strip?

I was frantically looking for some strip in the picture lol, the dash was stripped because I was replacing some other parts.
You only need to disassemble the centre console to get access to the metal plate. |
The correct way to adjust it is to put a 1 mm spacer (straight) when 2nd gear is engaged and tighten screws. If it's impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd the spacer has to be reduced to 0.8 mm.
These are the instructions that came with TRD short shifter. |
