PSA: Koni adjustables with 245/40/17 clearance
 

Figured I would share my experiences with this set up in case anyone wants to run the same set up so that they will know what they are in for.

Eibach pro-kit (1”lower) with KONI “yellows”
17x8+45 wheels
245/40/17 tires with 8.2” tread width per Tire Rack (Falken Azenis)
Camber bolt in bottom position at max negative camber setting

... results in about 3mm of clearance between tire and spring perch.

This is too close for comfort for me so I’m going to install a 3mm spacer which, from what I’ve read, will still allow proper fitment on the hub as well as lug nut engagement.

Tire Rack SSC install instructions recommend a minimum of 3mm between the Yellows spring perch and the tire. You are probably ok with out spacers.

When I was on stock struts with lowering springs and 245's it would rub slightly until the tires hit their hot pressures. I had about that much clearance, it made me really uncomfortable so I went to coil overs.

That’s what I’ve done as well. Just too close for comfort for me. The Koni/Eibach setup is for sale now. It’d be great for someone who is running 42 or less offset wheels and/or smaller tires.

What's your camber at? I'm at -1.5 with OEM crash bolt on OEM 18x7.5 215 Pilot Sport 4S with plenty of clearance.

Any particular reason for 245 wide tire? You can run 225 on a 17x8 wheel. This may give you a few more mm of clearance.

Crash bolt should be on the top hole and not the bottom per the OEM service manual.

Based on my research (MotoIQ.com and other websites) 225 was slightly narrow for an 8” wide wheel depending on which tire mfr and model. Plus, I could only really find 45 series tires in 225 width and I wanted the speedometer to be correct. A 245/40/17 keeps the speedometer accurate and is within 0.3” of the ideal tire width for an 8” wide wheel. Ideally I’d have gone 235/40 for proper width but that size is pretty rare.

I'm coming from an E46 BMW and the stock tire size for the front was 225/40/18 on an 18x8 wheel. I went through a few brands (from PSS to cheap chinese crap) and they never even began to have a stretched look.

225's on an 8" wide wheel are not an issue.

Agreed. 225/235 are ideal.
I got a wicked deal on PS4s in 215/45 and mounted them on a set of 8" wheels I had laying around.
They have a small amount of stretch. Though not ideal they're still within the minimum recommended size for 8".

Most of the higher end performance tires tend to fit wider than most other tires in the same size which helps.
