I snapped bolt for Ignition Coil No. 1 - stupidity!!
So this morning I was rushing to change ignition coil no. 1 (front passenger side) and when I went to put the ignition coil bolt in, I grabbed one of the three bolts used to hold the ECU on the side of the engine, and of course it is longer than the ignition coil bolt, and long story short, I snapped off the bolt.
My question is this: One way to handle this would be to pick up the engine a few inches so I can drill a small hole in the broken bolt and use an EZ-Out to get it out. Another way, I suppose, would be to remove the valve cover and then deal with the broken bolt. I am interested in your thoughts as to how I should go about fixing this. |
Time for a V8.

I do not see how vegetable juice will help the situation?

So you snapped the bolt from the ecu bracket and not ignition coil? If that's the case then it's fine. Keep 1 bolt at the bottom and 1 at top for balance

I am a bit thirsty AND hungry. But I still want to get the bolt out.

You might try JB Weld and a prayer - :iono:

Does the coil snap onto the plug?

I think the easiest way is what you already figured out. Remove the valve cover and work it from there.

If you want to go some drastic, you can use a 1" hole saw, cut horizontal on the fender the. You'll have enough room to use a drill out.
That's my guess anyway. |
It's torqued to the bottom of the hole, an ez-out is going to neither ez or get it out.
Your only option is to drill the majority of the bolt out to remove the tension and chase the threads. |

Are you sure the engine will even run? The ECU bolts don't just hold the ECU in place. Pretty sure one is a ground. Just saying you will want to get a new bolt soon for that of the correct size. |

OP, remove the valve cover no matter what. Take it to a machinist who will have much better luck with it. |
