Explanation on the different driving modes?

Could someone explain to me the different modes vsc, sport, snow ect.

What does it do and when to apply it? And when to take it off if you want to do something. No fancy explanation just the basics.

thanks

yeah i saw all the video about it but still need more info, maybe i'm slow lol. But I know what I will use in the snow

Sport lets you hang the tail end out a little more while still pulling it in to avoid you spinning out completely. OFF off is as if the traction control didn't exist on the car to begin with.

I have yet to change it from the default ON setting. There's only been one time that I did something very stupid that even the traction control was probably facepalming at me. Fortunately, I was able to get it straightened out. (Think someone giving you directions, "the turn is up here.... like RIGHT HERE" and it practically being a 90 degree turn at a good 35mph, in third gear :().

We honestly need a better explanation. There' 3+ modes. 1 button lights up VSC Sport and another light. The other lights up trac off. If you hold down that button you get trac off and another light up which is true freedom to spin the wheels.

Just pushing trac off seems stupid because the car still corrects itself and you can't spin

The following is my understanding. My understanding could be wrong but this is it.

----------------------------------------------------

All on

  • default setting when car is started
  • both TC and VSC are fully on
TC Off
  • hit the OFF button once
  • TC is off until car hits 31 mph, VSC is fully on
VSC Sport
  • hit the VSC Sport button
  • TC is fully on, VSC is in "VSC Sport" mode allowing some craziness
TC and VSC Off
  • hit the OFF button and the VSC Sport button
  • TC is off and will stay off (<---*I'm not certain of that*), VSC is in "VSC Sport" mode allowing some craziness
All Off
  • with car COMPLETELY STOPPED, hold the OFF button for 4 seconds
  • TC is off and will stay off, VSC is in "VSC OFF" mode (will still intervene at extremes)
Other
  • LSD -- Limited Slip Differential
  • EBD -- Electronic Brake Distribution
  • DBW -- Drive By Wire Throttle
  • EPS -- Electronic Power Steering
  • ABS -- Anti-lock Braking System
  • rear-wheel drive / 50/50 weight / low center of gravity
----------------------------------------------------

Snow
  • gears 2-6 only (no 1st gear)
  • softens throttle application / shifts
  • upshifts earlier / allows low RPMs / high gears / doesn't downshift as early
  • doesn't affect TC / VSC but sort of has a built in TC
Normal
  • all six gears
  • normal throttle / normal shifts / normal shift programming
Sport
  • to activate, must be in "D" mode (after activating, can switch to "M")
  • all six gears
  • normal throttle / more aggressive shifts / holds gears longer / downshifts earlier
All Nine Modes
  • D + Snow
  • D + Snow + Temporary Manual
  • D
  • D + Temporary Manual
  • D + Sport
  • D + Sport + Temporary Manual
  • M + Snow
  • M
  • M + Sport (must start out in "D" mode first)
Other
  • Idle mode -- first 30 seconds after turning on, wait for 1000 RPMs
  • AI Shift -- learns your shift patterns, only while in "D" mode
  • Cruise Control -- deactivates Sport
  • Air Conditioner -- button can be deactivated to leverage full HP
  • Sport mode -- can only be activated while in D mode
  • Rev matching -- on downshifts
----------------------------------------------------

Wow with all the book talk, let me make it simple

VSC , when you push that off it basically doesn't do much, it takes off the traction a bit and the stability won't be there to aid you and straighten out the car

Traction off is the same as VSC without turning of the stability/skid control , it just turns off traction , you still have the stability and skid control

Snow mode starts you off in 2nd gear, this is to prevent peels out in slippery conditions .. Hence the low torque in 2nd gear start

If you want full control and think you can handle this car at its full potential , hold down the traction button for 5 seconds , you have now turned off any aids the computer has to offer to you in handling the car.

Nepenthe, so you're saying we can't fully turn the VSC off? I've been holding it down, but it still kicks in and it's a pain in my ass when I'm trying to get rowdy.

eriktherod 08-02-2012 04:14 AM

You must be trying to get pretttty rowdy! I keep mine at the default setting and I still manage to break her loose from time to time, even for just a moment.

You can pull a fuse to disable VSC/TC entirely but I think it also turns off ABS...

Correct, short of pulling the fuse as mentioned, my understanding is that even if you hold the OFF button for four seconds while completely stopped, turning "off" both VSC and TC, that the VSC will still intervene at some point.
