Let's talk brake pads
 

What do you use? What are your driving conditions? What do you reccomend?
I'm going to be doing a track day soon and am planning on putting in carbotech xp10 pads for it. If they aren't too loud ill I'll keep them in for dd after. I'll put new fluid in before as well.

I understand that the stock brake pads are just fine for average driving and an occasional track day.

I would not recommend using stock pads on the track at all. It's potentially life-threateningly dangerous, depending on the particular track configuration. The stock brake pads are not intended for the high levels of heat that can be incurred and can literally separate/melt the compound off the backing plate (I've done this accidentally).

If you're going on the race track, get appropriate fluid and pads. You can start on the cheaper side, but stock pads are not sufficient or appropriate for track usage. They are perfectly fine for a daily driver.

I suggest going to forum's Tracking section, or more specific, one of it's stickied thread Track Brake Pad Dsicussion Thread. Info in other threads there also might be of use. What pads might fit best to you, will be most dependent from tires you have and your skills, and to lesser degree if you have forced induction, heavy aero downforce, and if having brake air ducts and if having BBK. Imho another thread here on track brake pads might be redundant.

You likely won't want to run XP10s for daily. They'll probably squeal and produce a lot of dust.

If you're going to track and daily your car, there is no real compromise. You will need a set of daily pads, and a set of track pads.

I have XP10's and I am not really that happy with them. I can not keep the fronts bedded in. When they get really hot the feel is kind of inconsistent, don't know how else to describe it.

I use Project Mu 800+ for daily and the occasional track day. Switched to higher rated brake fluid same time. They do squeak when coming to low speed stops but they really love heat generating stops from higher speed to quiet them down for awhile. This car is stored during winter.

How's the dust?

Minimal, but there is more than stock I'd say. The key is these pads love heat. It is just tolerable for me or I'd swap in the stock pads for daily. With wider tires, firm coil overs and a supercharger, I felt my brakes need some enhancement to keep up even for semi-daily use..

Lol. sarcasm or not, its to the threads benefit.

86Cup drivers use and recommend the following.

Pads: Winmax W5 or W6. PMu ClubRacer or 999. CSG-spec C1
Fluid: Winmax RBF. Pmu Gfour-355. Endless RF650

Dailying race pads is fine. You will get used to the dust and noise. Swapping pads is easy so either way is ok.
