Clunking coming from bottom of car after hitting enough bumps
 

The roads are bad here, so I try my best to drive with caution. Unfortunately I go over bumps sometimes and yesterday must have been the one that did damage. I have aftermarket coilovers - cars not super low but it takes a beating. So I go over a bump and now I get a clunking or like, knocking vibration under the car near the feet when I drive over even the slightest of bumps. My first thought was that maybe since it's a cold winter something snapped from the impact or a bolt came off, I checked under the car, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled both front wheels off and checked. I found 2 things, the passenger side I noticed something that doesn't look right. I'm not an expert but you guys are so knowledgeable so please help me out here. You'll notice the metal box is split open.. not sure if it's always been like that:

Last thing is the driver side coilover's weather guard is ripped in half, is that a massive red light? I won't drive the car until it gets looked at but just wanted to get your guys' take. Thanks in advance!

I suggest you take it into a reputable auto shop and have then inspect the suspension and fix anything that's wrong.

While the wheels are off, check your "Bump stops'. They're basically bushings for your shocks, they're very cheap to procure and they're designed to be a buffer between the metal between suspension and frame.

If you've ever had a back injury, think of the bump stop like the 'disks' in your spine. They keep the hard parts from smashing into each other.
