OEM Radiator Hose Expansion
Hello,
So I recently installed a Jackson Racing Dual Radiator/Oil Cooler along with the included 1.4bar radiator cap. I've been having issues with the lower radiator hose touching the bottom of the oil control valve. Has anyone else ran into the same issue? I believe it's cause the hose is expanding but maybe I aligned the hose incorrectly. It doesn't touch when cold with at least a finger or two gap between the bottom of the control valve. After driving, it's touching. I'm not sure if it can expand that much. Also, anyone knows if silicone hoses are more expansion resistant? I didn't want to go that route but if it prevents the hose from touching, I don't have much choice. Thanks! |
Shouldn’t expand that much. Possibly installed with a twist in it?

May or may not be your issue, but did you put the hose on in the same way you took it off? It’ll fit fine either way but hose will be routed slightly different depending what end you put on radiator.

To have a hose expand an inch there is either broken fibers or there is a leak to the outer lining.
If it is not expanding but reorienting under pressure and heat there is a twist in the install. Look at it when hot and running standing still of course. |
A) re-orient the hose when cold to a larger gap.
If that does not work. B) add chafe protection. |
Looks like it's pressure related. I swapped over to the oem radiator cap and when the engine is fully warmed up, there is clearance between the hose and oil control valve. Seems like the 1.4bar pressurizes it a bit too much where it wants to straighten the hose to the point it touches.
I'll try to see if I can reorient the hose but as far as I know, it should be oriented correctly. There doesn't seem to be any kinks or twist in them. The hose follows the path of its shape naturally. Thanks guys! |
