Ecutek License Question

-Car has been tuned on 93 using Ecutek (racerom upgraded) with Tuner A. Currently only have 1 map.

-Looking to use a different Tuner B in town(for various reasons) for a new flex fuel map and remain on Ecutek using same dongle etc.

1) Do I need to purchase a new Ecutek license for new tuner B to create a new map?

I attempted to find my answer here in the forums and their page but to no avail. Thanks in advance! :iono:

The license is applied to your dongle, so if you're holding the dongle, they can put it into their computer and tune away

You won t need to buy a new license, but I didn't understand if You have a ecutek kit at home or not. Did you remote tune your car with Tuner A?
Tuner B must do a new tune from scratch and you will communicate your 6digits dongle ID and he will send you tunes that will open on your ecutek kit

Simple answer is no, you don't need to purchase one. The ECU license is flashed to the ECU and is therefore a new one is not required once the ECU initially flashed.

The dongle is just the software license for the laptop/PC software.

Thank you all, that answered my question. I have ECUTEK kit in hand, so from what I understood I have everything I need to just go to Tuner B and tune away on new map.

for the sake of avoiding another thread,

I have an ecutek licence and fully tuned by my tuner. Recently acquired a ecutek cable but a licence dongle of another car, can I plug this into my car just for datalogging purposes?

You shouldn't have a problem. The only limitation as far as i know would be that any tune files that you would want to flash with this other dongle would need to be keyed for that dongle ID.

Yes you can, just open a stock rom of your CalId and apply a racerom patch and start logging

So long as the RR patch is of the same version. If it's not some of the RR parameters may not log correctly.

Yes, you re right, i ve experienced errors too with a wrong rr patch, but mostly just works

It's because the logging addresses can change as the different patches use different RAM locations. Some of the older patches changed so much between versions that very few of the RR parameters worked if you have the wrong patch applied and IMO the OEM parameter list on EcuTek isn't the best. It's less of an issue on the newer patches but if you happen to have an older one on the car and can't find the right patch you might find the logging is a little bit pointless.

@504 as it's your tuner that did the original flash, just get him to change the Keying on the ROM to your new dongle ID and get him to send it to you. Then you can use that, it's the easiest solution. Or ask him the ID of the RR patch if he won't send it to you.
