Is it normal for the AC to blow warmer air when under acceleration
 

I have noticed when I an accelerating that my A/C tends to blow warmer air out while pressing the gas. Is this normal for an 86 is should I get this checked out by the dealership?

The AC automatically disengages when accelerating to give you more power for accelerating the car instead of cooling the air. It should reengage automatically when you are no longer accelerating.

I don't find that my AC really disengages when I floor it hard cuz the car is still being bogged down until I turn the AC off. :iono:

Do you mean when the A/C is actually running, or when the system is turned off and there's just air flowing through the vents while driving?

I know this car will blow warm air through the vents during normal driving even if A/C is off. Is this what your describing? If so then yes its normal.

Yep. Not just normal for this car but for almost every small displacement engine made for the last 20 years. Like so many things it is just more noticeable in these since everything is right there in your face.

Every car I've even owned turns off the compressor when accelerating but my FRS seems to be more aggressive with turning it off then any of my others cars. The slightest acceleration will cause it to turn off. I got my car with 80K miles on it and I noticed after accelerating that it didn't seem to cool back off as quickly as I would expect. This got worse with time. It got to where I would be driving along the interstate and it would randomly start heating up for 10 mins at a time before randomly cooling back down. I figured it needed a charge which I did but it have no impact. Turned out the relay was going bad and randomly the compressor would fail to turn back on. I swapped my horn and AC relay and now the compressor cycles consistently and I don't really notice it getting hot when accelerating unless I'm on a back road where I'm not giving it a break. Now I have a horn that randomly doesn't work. One of these days I will get around to replacing it. Hahaha

Huh..never noticed this. I'll have to check it out when I use my A/C again in four or five months. On the flipside, I HAVE noticed that this car takes forever to warm the cockpit, and then only at speed or revving. While idling at a light or tooling around town, I experience temperatures best described as "slightly less chilled."

I find that the car is well warmed after about 8 minutes of driving... For my upper body at any rate. I suffered through a broiling head and frozen feet for a couple of months before my grandson figured out what was going on. Next time it is really cold and the heater has started warming your face just reach down the right side of your seat and touch the floor. You will find that even though the cabin is warming there is an artic level cold front coming from under the seat. The temperance variance is so great it is a wonder that thunderstorms don't develop down there. I figure that the cabin layout simply does not let the warm air flow well enough to even out the temperature and the rear stays cold enough to push through to my feet for pretty much my whole 45 minute commute. Now I just shove an old towel under the seat for the winter and my feet are as warm as the rest of me. In fact I now rarely turn the fan above 2 no matter how cold it is outside.

The AC also takes care of de-humidification.
When you hit defrost, the AC comes on.
Take a minute to knock all the slush off your boots first, and it's not quite as bad.

Yep, like said above, cars with AC have been doing that for years. However, with some cars, back in the day, in the heat of a long road race, on a hot day, we used to manually turn off the AC (less power drain), roll up the windows (for less drag) and turn on the heater (to cool the engine).
