2016 FR-S making Weird winding sound

So I started my car up this morning, nothing out of the ordinary but after a minute or so, my car started to make a weird winding up noise. I left my car idling for several minutes and I came back to it still making that noise. I thought it was my sound system, so I turned that off and it was still going on. So I just decided to turn my car off. It still kept making that noise after about 15 seconds. My car is all stock, for the most part. I’m not sure how I can upload the video of it. But I’d appreciate any info

Can you pin point where the sound coming from?

It sounded like it was coming from the center of the cabin, near the dash

Weird. Was the AC on? Any way you could describe the winding noise? Did it eventually go away? Any previous issues?

The closest I can describe the sound is like a dvd being rejected or put in. Today was the first occurrence, just started up my car twice and it seems fine

AC was off as well. I was told by other that it could be AC, HID, or fuel pressure pump

Cooling fan in the head unit took a shit. It's a thing.

Is it an issue? Or fixable?

It's a common little fan. I don't remember if soldering is required.

xanielxx 11-20-2018 12:50 AM

How does that even happen though?

Teeny tiny bearings give out. It's a numbers game. For 10,000 fans, one or two have exactly the right combination of blades out of balance and/or whatever else imperfect. Those shit the bed earlier than the rest.

Thanks man. Nothing worry then?

Not exactly. Once the fan quits altogether, the rest of the head unit will overheat. But that's all.
